| quote: | Steve Helstrip-Thrillseekers Planning April's Podcast, sans tracks from Armada since they have banned the use of their tracks over 2mins in podcasts. That includes my new track, Savanna, which I was going to play.
Armada isn't outright banning Armada tracks, but they are severly limiting them. They must be 2 minutes at max and must be taken offline after 30 days.
Armada Music (Armin van Buuren) has sent out letters to DJs informing them that the are no longer allowed to use Armada tracks in their podcasts. This includes removing old podcasts which included tracks from Armada. |
un exemple concret chez le poto à Armin pourtant, le Menno de Fion (Stan, tu peux remercier Menno pour Lange .. ;) ) :
| quote: | Due to a rather unfortunate situation with Armada Music / Cloud 9 the Intuition Podcast is currently not available through iTunes. Recently Armada / Cloud 9 has expressed that they do not want their releases to be featured in the Intuition Podcast. Despite efforts on my behalf trying to secure that the legally required royalty payments are made to them (by submitting playlists to the Dutch copyright authorities Buma/Stemra and Sena) their opinion has not changed. This has several direct effects:
- iTunes has (hopefully temporarily) removed the Intuition Podcast from iTunes due to a complaint from Armada Music / Cloud 9.
- I have had to delete all Podcasts containing Armada / Cloud 9 releases from my website.
- I have salvaged Intuition Podcast 016 by cutting out their releases mistakenly put in there (the artist did not mention the fact that the release was signed to Armada / Cloud 9 when they sent me the promo, hence I accidentally put it in).
You can currently still download Intuition Podcast 015 and 016 by clicking on the RSS logo on the right of my website (this file can be viewed in iTunes like the regular podcast). Hopefully it will be business as usual very soon so that iTunes will continue to deliver the podcast to you. Once we are back up I will immediately put in the video report of ‘Menno Solo’ which took place last year so you have something to look forward to.
Keep on enjoying the music. I’d like to stress once again that by purchasing music through the links provided in the enhanced podcast you are securing the future of podcasting, and helping artists, labels and podcasters around the world!
Peace,

| quote: | | Overwhelmed! I’m overwhelmed by the reaction of my recent Essential mix on BBC 1Radio, my team sent me links from forums across the world, and it’s amazing seeing so much positive feedback. It’s impossible for me to post on each and every forum thanking everyone for their kinds words, so I’ll use my Blog here to let everyone know how thankful I am for the support. I put so much work into that mix, when Pete Tong invited me to do another mix I couldn’t just do a regular DJ mix because we hear thousands of them each week on internet radio stations, so I wanted to treat this completely different making it something special, kinda like a collectors item. Last year myself and The Digital Blonde did a 2-hour mash up mix on Global Trance Grooves and this inspired me to take the same approach with this mix. Every single track has been changed in some way with added synth parts, edits and FX. I treated this like a 2-hour remix, listening to every element of each track, moulding them together with my producer skills. When tracks are mixing, I edited them to ensure no parts clashed, even processing problematic elements and frequencies. You’ll also hear elements carry over all through the mix, making ceaseless mix so it feels like one unbroken journey. From this reaction I’m seriously thinking about doing this live at gigs, maybe with some occasional help from The Digital Blonde at gigs too….that’s if you want to see it ?! Maybe I’ll incorporate this into my forthcoming JOOF Editions nights that are coming up….maybe I’ve just found the special formula for JOOF Editions club nights. You tell me, after all I need to listen to you? I’d be happy to perform a 4/5 hour version of my Essential mix to an open minded crowd, it would be a dream for me. As usual my words cause controversy, I’m referring to my opening statement on my Essential mix. Words can get translated in various ways….especially on forums! Look, I’m not a music purist, or the man who has the final word of how Trance should sound because music has no rules. It’s the fact that the Trance scene is heading down a one-way street with the same Euro format for the past decade and it worries me that the next generation of DJ’s/Clubbers are growing up in this scene thinking this is the only form of Trance. If I didn’t care for the scene I wouldn’t speak out. I could have easily headed down the commercial Trance direction myself and pocketed a bucket load of cash, but I chose not too because I would be unhappy as the music comes first to me. In all honesty I would rather give up than play music I don’t like, in my eyes that’s having a passion for something I love. I’m from a generation of DJ’s that plays a whole range of music in my sets, and contrary to belief I love playing some powerful uplifting stuff near the end of my sets, the problem is its difficult trying to find quality uplifting music these days. For me it’s like looking at the pop charts, you hear many manufactured pop stars with machines behind them and they all sound the same (ish), but then you also get in the charts real musicians like, Chemical brothers and Muse the quality in the songs and music is like night and day. Believe it or not bands like Way out west, where seen like the more commercial bands in Trance music’s hay day in the 90’s, but look at the quality they where churning out and those songs still stand the test of time today. This is what we’re missing from the Trance scene today, this being replaced by manufactured ‘bands/DJ’s’ with machines behind them making it almost impossible for new talent to break through. So if my words have turned heads just a little bit then it’s a job done. As you’ve all seen by now, my new website is up and running and you’ll understand why the long delay due to all the content. We have some minor bugs to iron out and these will be fixed in a couple of weeks. We’ll be adding more things as we go along, but didn’t want to try and do too much to quickly as mistakes will be made. If you have a wish list of anything, pop to my forum and let me know! I’m enjoying making the videos, so you can expect to see many more including tutorials and advice…..also look out for the ‘making of my Essential mix’, we need to edit and put this one together. I’ve been promising my artist album for many years now, and its still not ready! I made the mistake of falling into the trap of filling my diary with tour dates, something the industry sees as a ‘trophy’ status, but it was effecting my studio productions, as I couldn’t find the time to finish projects. I don’t have the luxury of having a team of ghost writers/producers, anyway I prefer writing my own music because I can let myself breathe musically with my own ideas. So I’m treating music production in the same way bands do, by taking a little time off then tour once the albums are done. I’m cutting down the amount of gigs of over the next few months so I can finish my artist album and the next 00.db album with The Digital Blonde. I have to say the next 00.db album is sounding awesome!! We have really grown up both musically and the production too. Having this extra time has allowed us to experiment with new sounds, programming and engineering. The finished product is oooozzing with quality. We are so proud. You’ll also notice I’ve been asked by some TV and movie companies to provide music scores, so been busy with this and I’ll let you know what they are when I’m allowed too, but expect lots of John 00 and 00.db productions in there!! That’s me done for this month, don’t forget to visit the new site! |
