(Ok so maybe I am just bored at work).....
....... but I have been thinking a lot lately about getting my ass back into shape. I am signing up for the NYSC gym this weekend. I have seriously gained ridiculous amounts since I quit playing sports in my 3rd year of college, and really want to get my sex-ay body back.

Any advice sharing for:

- fun workouts/classes,
-keeping motivated (esp if you work long hours),
-how to make the best of your workouts (some of us can only work out a couple times a week),
-healthy eating tips,
-caloric intake,
-healthy living in general, etc?

I am creating this thread not just for myself, but for anyone intersted....I am sure we all could learn from it :)

I'm a retired personal trainer, so I can help out fo' sho. The most important question is how much time per day/week can you allocate to the gym?
yankeeBaby
2-3 days, 1.5 hours each. (4 days will never work with my schedule, so I have to maximize the time I have)

gotta start with your nutritional intake, change your eating habits and work out regularly

the workout thread in the c0r is similar to this...I'll be willing to go to the gym with you on occasion Kelly. NYSC is a decent gym and I have the membership where I can go to any club any time.

it sometimes helps to put up what type of exercises you do, for how long and with how much weight/reps. I might do the same actually because I need a change...

THANK YOU KELLY!!! I have wanted to start a thread like this FOREVER!!!

Frank: How do you suggest someone gets motivated to work out? I want to sooooo bad but I just can't get to the gym. I work until usually 7:00 every night and don't get home until around 8:30 when I just want to crash. My gym is in my building which is great but I find that after I have chilled out from work I just can;t get the enegy to go to the gym.

Any Ideas? Anyone?

pretty much following what Drews doing esp with the running, such a great way to tone up in general, abs, hand weights to help with muscle groups etc.

dietwise, concentrating on eating less white carbs while adding on more protein, and limiting/eliminating late meals (i am trying to eat my dinner no later than 7-730pm) or else having smaller meals just throughout the day. and NO caloric-rich snacks (so byebye chips and all that yummy/carb stuff :( ).

in addition, trying to take a women's multivitamin pill everyday (important for ppl with low blood sugar/anemia like me - esp containing folic acid and B12).

my sister introduced me to flaxseed which can be added to meals. ground flaxseed or chilled flaxseed oil is most effective.

this is going to turn out into a NYC work out thread lol

when I didnt belong to a gym years ago, i used to work out with hand and ankle weights at home after work even while watching TV during prime time (Seinfeld as i recall was a GREAT show to watch while working out haha)

would do madd repetitions per arm/leg per exercise for a total of 30-40 minutes, 4 times a day. it helped to tone me up in a very short time.

sorry bro, but this is not the most important thing. the most important thing is to eat properly. The easiest way to cut back on unhealthy calories to replace everything you drink with water. Also, don't cut out food you love, just eat those things every once in a while.

^^^I think both are equally important. I used to workout like a psycho (2hrs at the gym 5 to 6 days a week and skated twice a week or tennis twice a week)and ate kinda crappy so I was chubbier than I am now. I've also eatten really well and not exercised and that didn't work out. You need a healty balance between the two, neither is more important than the other...don't need to cut back on your favorite foods and you don't need to workout like a psycho either.
