Nice setup, very similar to my own, though ya definitely invest in some monitors.
With the virus providing the bulk of my sounds, I don't even know what I'd have to do to hit max CPU usage in Ableton. In my current track I have something like 8 Antares filters kicking around and a bunch of native effects, and am hitting 35% =P |

I switched to quad 2 weeks ago, and it's an overkill - in a good way. I can't get past 40% mark on stuff I work on. It's just so much power... |

Yeah, in the end, it's nice to not have to even think about your CPU any more. Only having to think about making a good sounding production. |

My studio...by which I mean bedroom...by which I mean studio.
Setup includes CDJ-800MK2, DJM-500, KRK V6 monitors, Oxygen 8 keyboard, Edirol interface, Yorkville stage monitors, powered by a Quad Core 2.44GHz box.
Next steps include a 26" LCD display (and some hardware synths if I win the lottery).

Oh, and check out my latest track (and video) on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/djjackpea
Cheers! |

I guess I should invest in a pair of Mackie HR824mkIIs at some point...

EDIT: I use what you see exclusively for music. That PC has never been linked to an internet connection, rendered a game, or played a movie. Just music production. :) |
i have the hr824's... and if you like bass, id say pass on these. unless you want to spend another grand for the hrs-120 sub that goes with them. |

I intend to, actually. :)
The two are perfectly matched so that's why I decided on them. |

I wouldn't say "lucky bastards".. It think I can speak for allmost everyone here who has a studio slightly bigger then just a computer when I say this: It has taken years and years of devotion and saving those extra cash here and there to buy the stuff. It's not like a studio is built over a night and we've got the stuff for free... So if you want some quipment yourself, then save up for it.. all it takes is some devotion... |

Hell yea man, I've made so many other sacrifices to pay for everything and I'm nowhere near done. |

WTF? Are you serious?
The 824's are known for having nearly too much bass! At work we compensate the mix because when we listen to an 824 mix on other speakers it always sounds light on bass.
Buying the sub is just crazy unless you just want a really bass heavy sytem for listening to tracks, but in that case I wouldn't 824's (or even studio monitors period), rather some nice Hi-fi biased speakers. |

Very true, one day I will be out of college & able to afford my own hardware. Than me and my new access virus will live happily ever after. =] |
