i like it. tidy, big space, monitors in the right height and also many enough to be able to monitor the mixer, the sequencer, and the instruments simultaneously. and you have a midikeyboard with more keys than most, my bet is with this setup you can get a lot of creativity down into your projects effectively. i like it. i guess you work with headphones only as there are no monitors there, you might want to invest in some speakers and a soundcard, you seem to have space for it, other that that; perfect. |
Thanks!
Thing is I mainly produce ambient music so I am not really sure how much monitor speakers would help. I usually produce my tracks with my Sennheiser 280s. Towards the end after I get all the levels worked out I listen to the track with some non monitor headphones (Sennheiser PC 360).
I have a 24 bit/192khz internal sound card that has ASIO drivers but I have been considering getting something external so I don't have to switch between ASIO drivers to record my TB-3 and hear sound in Reaper. |

they're about 1.8m apart, a little further than I'd have ideally liked because of the triple screen setup. |

Not really part of my "home studio" but my field recording equipment just came in.
Stereo pair of Rode NT5 cardioid microphones with "Dead Kitten" wind screens.
Gator Frameworks Tripod Mic Stand w/Boom
K&M Adjustable Stereo Mic Bar
Tascam DR-100MKII Recorder
Not the best setup in the world but it will do for now! |

I plan on using these in various stereo pair setups to add a "spacial" feeling to my ambient/downtempo stuff. As for what I will actually record, pretty much anything and everything and sometimes even borderline silence. I want to capture the sound like you were actually there, so most of the time I am looking at the overall sound instead of something specific.
I have a few trips planned to different places soon, in a few weeks I am going to a beach near here very early in the morning. Next trip is out to some land my family owns in a very rural part of Texas. About a month after that I will be traveling around Germany / Italy but I am not looking for any sounds in particular, generally speaking if it sounds interesting I will record it!
Also I got both the Cardioid and the Omni capsules for my NT5. I think I may need a bigger stereo bar for AB though, lol.
EDIT:
From what I have read, ORTF/Cardioid and AB/Omni are the best configurations for recording "atmosphere" like you where there, I will most likely just go with ORTF/Cardiod because I don't want to carry two microphone stands to place them far enough appart for AB. |

| DX7, huh? Nice one. I heard it's a bitch to program, but you can get some really nice sounds out of it. |
