A (good) clock can improve sound quality... but if you're using an m-audio interface or similar, you'd be better off spending that money fixing the first link in the chain.
Nobody "needs" one in a music-only studio. |

I have a big ben but I am syncing 2 computers. Like Hexadecimal said, nobody needs it. |

Total noob here... why is a dedicated master clock needed? The ing thing costs 1200 bucks! Are there any cheaper but nearly-as-good alternatives available? I wouldn't mind resetting/syncing such a piece of equipment once a day (if it needed that) if I could buy it for say, a Benjamin. |
Black Lion Audio has a good clock i had one for a few months last year, depends what digital gear you're running though, multiple digital interfaces and outboard should see an improvement, but as has been said, you need to see if your interface will benefit from this(cant polish a turd kinda thing) |

Exactly. A good clock does very little in terms of improvement to a decent interface (prosumer and above) by itself - if anything clocks actually introduce more jitter to single units (apart from MOTU units which while having good converters, have relatively mediocre clocks).
With motu, unless you're going to pony up for a very serious clock like an antelope, you're way better off doing an internal clock mod such as the BLA.
However, the moment a you are trying to sync more than one digital device, the need for a clock become much more important, and vital when dealing with different sample rates accross multiple systems. |

I've got 3x Lynx Two cards which are recommended to be internally or externally clocked, will probably be looking for an external clock for these soon |

A few photos of my newest gear - I replaced a few synths with a Kurzweil PC3X and my Polar with the keyboard version (wanted more keys):

 Thanks, Dave!
I just got over a six-month stint in recovery for gear-lust and you've caused a relapse!
Nice and clean as new studio. I do have to admire it. |
