fortunately you're only playing with 1200 bucks. In December I lost $5k in about a week, so I decided to sit on the sidelines until things calm down.

Ya, and now that I'm living on limited income, its not going to get much bigger anytime soon. :p

Unless I dip into my 401k, but even if I'm only 23 thats probably a bad idea. :p

I knew you were going to say something. :D

The hit was directly and entirely to my bank account (not a reduction in a gain). It was painful to watch unfold in such a short period. Although I'm glad I made the move to solidify my losses because i would be down something like 12K+ at this point. As soon as I made my purchases the stocks plummeted.

401K at 23! Unless you're getting a nice matching contribution from your employer, 401Ks suck! there are too many restrictions.

Just putting it all in perspective.;) It's nauseating to think of it in dollar terms...gotta train the mind to think in percentages.

ouch dude - sorry to hear that. That's exactly why 401Ks suck! That money would be easily accessible if it was in an IRA or just your bank account. I don't know all the rules for 401Ks, but the withdrawal rules are burdensome and difficult. Plus, the 10% penalty is a real bitch. Since you lost your job you can't even take out a loan from the plan.

If you don't get a matching contribution you should NEVER NEVER NEVER contribute to a 401K.

Really? I can't take it out until its under another employers plan huh?

Thats pretty lame. :(

Oh well...

I don't mind losing my job, it sucked rocks. Fired or quit, one was going to happen eventually, and I got fired, so at least I can collect unemployement insurance. Thats a PITA though so I'm going to get in school ASAP and make my family foot the bill for my expenses... :D :( :p

hiram
thoughts on Lockheed Martin (LMT) anyone? nice dividend and bounced off support at 70 and could break through 80. no guilt for investing in war machines.
