Here are the hits I got from it (Bear with me, it's long):
Disclaimer 1: I'm from the U.S. so some of the things I say apply to my country and not Canada.
Disclaimer 2: I know this is the c0r, but it's a hobby of mine to critique resumes, so I apologize for not being funny in this post.
1) Remove your age & relationship status from your resume. Employers may be legally barred from asking those type of personal questions and offering up the info may create some sticky legal stuff.
2) Another reason to remove your age... I noticed you were 29 and employers may have expectations of what a man your age should have in terms of work experience.
3) Your resume needs to be consistent with your work goals. You could do an educator themed resume. However, you have substantial training, but didn't highlight actual teaching experience. In a tiny bullet at the end of Extracurriculars, you mention volunteer tutor & English teacher. You need to put that as work experience.
4) Your work experience needs to be in reverse chronological order. Most recent jobs go first.
5) Remove gaps in employment history. Plug significant volunteer work as job experience. Writing "self-employed" is a big red flag unless you describe it. Consulting and interning are acceptable substitutes for self-employed, but be prepared to explain it in an interview. If you aren't doing any significant, career oriented volunteering/interning now, I suggest you start it up again. Recent experience is crucial to getting a job.
6) I'd drop your hobbies in the skills section and add any technical skill you have. It's fine to mention bull skills that everyone has such as: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, html, Photoshop, blah, blah, blah. Personally, I think having DJ skills is fine, but you might want to mention the music production equipment and software you have used. Who knows you might get a job teaching kids to make music.
7) I agree about what other's said about the pictures. The only picture I like was the basic portrait shot. The rest looked like something you'd see in myspace or a cheezy dating site. |
