What are everyone's thoughts about Clemens not pitching again until the playoffs? I realize that one of his strongest attributes is his ability to pitch well in practically any situation but this still has to be a concern, right?
Thank God Manny and Youk are coming back - our offense has been so stagnate. |

who do you prefer to play??? I'm actually really happy that the yankees aren't going to win the division. I would much rather face the indians, who are 3 ahead of the angels in the loss column. The yankees have owned the indians this year, 8-0 i think. As for the angels, well, everyone knows the angels have the yankees number. |

OK....ALDS Game 1 @ yankees stadium or ALCS Game 1 @ yankees stadium?
Although i was picked to buy tickets, i bet i still won't get any. |

| Ok i gotta hate a little bit here, i come on here and dawg farnsworth all the time...the guy was lights out tonite and u dont let him start the next inning? let him get a mental boost joe for october.......im so sick of this 1 inning rule with torre, i love him to death but its happened so much in the past 2 years its starting to worry me for the post season........by the way tampa is lucky they were playing the warning track on AROD in the 9th that was a fuking Zinger to left field! |

i disagree...torre needs to stick to this rule. Last year he destroyed the bullpen. I actually think he needs to stick with starters longer; but who the hell am i to say?!? |

It's a good question. In a 7 game series I think the Sox and Yankees are by far the better teams because of depth in the starting rotation/pen and strength of 7-9 hitters. That said, in a 5 game series Cleveland really worries me because they can go back to back with Fausto and CC. I want the Angels because the only place where they're better then we are is on the bases.
Unfortunately, the only pitcher who's been consistent down the stretch for us is Beckett. I'm much more worried now then I was, say, 2 weeks ago. |

That's going to be your achilles heal. It's actually quite surprising because your rotation started out so well, and it's really what carried you for a good portion of the season when ortiz and manny were acting like AA players. |

I absolutely agree. That's also why this week is so important for the Sox because it'll give us an accurate gauge of where we are. I thought Schilling was sharp tonight, we'll see where Okajima is on Thursday and also learn how Manny and Youk are hitting coming off injuries.
I think the big question is Matz. Beckett will continue to dominate, Schilling will give us solid starts but how far we go will be determined by how Dice-K and the pen pitch. |

shilling is going to pitch his heart out, so i wouldn't worry too much about him. you're right about Matz; he seems like a clemens type waste of cash now, don't you think?
I honestly think your success in the playoffs may rest with your bullpen. I can see your starters not going far. Obviously Beckett (CY Young winner in my book) will give two good starts if necessary. But as you said, that's where the certainty ends. Shilling will pitch decently, but is that enough? Matz? Wakefield? But fortunately for you, the sox have the bats to get out of jams, so i figure you'll make the comebacks if/when the rotation lets you down. That's where the bullpen comes in. That said, I think Okijima is a big question mark too. (as a side note, 9 of his 17 ER have been given up against the yankees) |
