and threw in the towel in August.....

PS I know it's early, but Drew has looked great at the plate.

JD Drew has always looked good at the plate. It's just that he's not at the plate too often. If he were consistently healthy, he'd put up Gary Sheffield numbers every year. They have the same career line:

.288/.394/.511 - Drew

.296/.397/.523 - Sheff

i know, and before the series they were talking about how strong our bullpen was. although the second game wasn't really a come from behind. Didn't Karstens get rocked.

anyways...i'm glad i don't get worked up until around the all star break. They usually stay close enough that it doesn't matter until that point.

One good thing that came out of this series was that it exposed that the boston starting rotation wasn't that good. Each starter gave up at least 4 runs. Their 100 million man gave up 6. Not too good if you ask me. Things should get better. Wang is back on Tuesday and i think matsui is coming back soon. When mussina comes back we should be in good shape.

And before that, he had given up 6 runs in 20 innings. One bad start does not make a bad starting pitcher. He still struck out 7 in 7 innings. And only gave up 8 hits and 1 walk. Really, he didn't pitch poorly.

His other three games were against KC, Seattle, and Toronto. The only team in there that is good is toronto.

Against the yankees his ERA was 7.714. If that was expanded over the season he wouldn't have a job, regardless whether he had 200 K's or not.

In all honesty, I think that it is - not b/c he needs more time, he's one of two top pitching prospects in the country. Rather, I wonder how his arm strength will hold as the season moves along, especially if he does well and remains in the rotation. The Yanks will need him in August, not April.

Further, it's a long season and there really is no need to panic after they way they played this weekend which, quite frankly, was quite well. The offensive numbers for both teams are scarily similar when you consider the rotations both teams had on display.

considering that boston was hitting against double A pitchers, they weren't that impressive. They could barely hit Pettitte.

Yes, that's exactly what I said.
