alright james steven an others feel free on this idea for our pitching rotation in
the playoffs
starters: pettite wang clemmens moose (maybe kennedy or hughs)
relievers: vizcaino joba villone (christ theres no one else i can throw in there wheres proctor when u need him?!?!?!)
closer: mo joba farnsworthless (if only a blow out)
nxt season basically and for the future
only thing i want to add is this
move moose to reliever (fat chance since his contract), make kennedy starter to take over mooses spot, hughs a perm starting position, try to lure pettite back for a few more yrs (2 maybe), keep joba as reliever an on marianos off nights close an when mo finally retires slide joba in as a closer make him the air apparent an see if we can get rid of farnie with the quickness all the while going for another pitcher during the offseason(who don t know yet)
granted it would be a long shot but thats my thoughts on the pitching rotation |

You're not wrong with the playoff rotation, in theory.
Here are the ALDS schedules. You only need 3 pitchers for one, schedule B, but schedule A probably needs four starters. Note that the parenthesis show the show the spots regular spots in a 5 man rotation. I added it to show how they can skip starters.
Schedule A:
(1) Thursday[10/4] - Wang
(2) Friday[10/5] - Pettitte
(3) Saturday - NO GAME
(4) Sunday[10/7] - Clemens
(5) Monday[10/8] - Mussina / Hughes
(1) Tueday - NO GAME
(2) Wednesday[10/10] - Wang
Schedule B (Much more favorable for our rotation):
(1) Wednesday[10/3] - Wang
(2) Thursday - NO GAME
(3) Friday[10/5] - Pettitte
(4) Saturday - NO GAME
(5) Sunday[10/7] - Clemens
(1) Monday[10/8] - Wang
(2) Tuesday - NO GAME
(3) Wednesday[10/10] - Pettitte
ALCS Schedule with normal five day rotation, as you can see, you need 4 starters in the ALCS because rotation spot 1 doesn't rotate the 3rd time:
Game 1 - 10/12 (Fri) (rotation spot 1)
Game 2 - 10/13 (Sat) (rotation spot 2)
Game 3 - 10/15 (Mon) (rotation spot 4)
Game 4 - 10/16 (Tue) (rotation spot 5)
Game 5 - 10/18 (Thu) (rotation spot 2)
Game 6 - 10/20 (Sat) (rotation spot 4)
Game 7 - 10/21 (Sun) (rotation spot 5) |

The playoff roster is set at 25
Starters:
Jeter - SS
ARod - 3B
Cano - 2B
mientkiewicz - 1B
Melke - CF
Abreu - RF
Damon - LF (which btw, seems to be working very well)
Posada - C
Total 8/25
Bench:
Matsui - OF/DH
Molina - C
Betiminit - IF
Giambi - DH
Total 4/25 (12/25)
Rotation:
Pettitte
wang
clemens
mussina (experience will always win out w/torre)
total 4/25 (16/25)
Bullpen:
Mariano
Joba
Vizcaino
Farnsworth
Kennedy
Hughes
Villone
Bruney
Last spot is tought - either ramirez or veras (neither of whom i like) Torre may also surprise us with Sean Henn (if he's eligible) because we have only one lefty
total 9/25 (25/25)
As for next years rotation:
(1) wang, (2) pettitte, (3) Hughes, (4) Mussina, (5) Kennedy / Joba
maybe joba will stick one more year in the bullpen awaiting Mussina's departure because i honestly think the yankees will resign pettitte in 2008 after his club option. Also, remember Kennedy was fast tracked to the team because of injuries. He may not start next year in the bigs. |

Wouldn't be surprised if Torre went with Henn, you guys could really use another Lefty.
I would be surprised if Joba didn't get a chance to start next season, his arm is too electric for him not to.
On an unrelated note, how many of you guys have been to PvD @ Roseland before? My gf and I are thinking of coming up for his Halloween gig and I was just wondering whether it'd be worth it or not. I've never seen him spin for more than 4 hours, which is why I'm considering it. |

| Ian Kennedy is not going to be on the final roster for the ALDS because of the sore back. He might be there for the ALCS if he feels better. |

Heres the thing with Joba, hes 21... versus Johan whos 28... granted, we all know Johan is amazing, but theres so much talk about Joba and he has already won over the fans in Yankees stadium.
What happens if hes a bust? We will be looking back and saying what if...
But what happens if he is as good as everyone says? And when you have Clemens and Pettite giving you pointers... Id say hes in a good place.
When he starts, hes gonna go by the Jake Peavy rules... first off... when he begins starting, he probably wont go more than 5IP no matter what, after he adapts no more than 7IP. We dont want another Francisco Liriano.
If Johan isnt resigned, I dont expect teams to trade for him cause the cost would be immense, I say he hits the FA market and the team with the fattest/most desperate wallet will get him. And if/when the Yanks resign ARod, I cant see them going after Johan. I want the Yanks to go after Rowand for CF, than move Melke's gun out to RF. |

The current FA market predictions:
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Prediction: Signs 8-year, $256M deal with the Giants
Analysis: The top potential free agent has a contract that runs through the 2010 season. However, Alex Rodriguez has a clause in his contract allowing him to opt for free agency after the 2007 World Series, a clause he plans to exercise under the guidance of contract mastermind Scott Boras. Boras wants the Yankees to restructure Rodriguez's contract to guarantee him between $32 and $36 million each year for the next eight years through the 2015 season. The Yankees, meanwhile, say if Rodriguez opts out of the deal they will not try to sign him on the open market because they lose more than $30 million in payments from the Texas Rangers. So if and when he becomes a free agent, the As a free agent, the Angels, Dodgers, Cubs, Red Sox, Rangers, Orioles, Indians, Phillies, Mariners, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Astros, White Sox and Giants will all pursue him to some degree. Unfortunately, few will be able to meet such an exorbant price tag.
Mike Lowell, 3B
Prediction: Signs 4-year, $48M deal with the Yankees
Analysis: Lowell regained his form in 2007 after a couple seasons of showing declining power and average. He will enter 2008 at just 34 making him an attractive third base options for many teams. While he wants to remain in Boston, he wants more than the 1-year deal the Red Sox would be willing to offer according to their current plans. The Padres, Giants, Yankees, Astros and Phillies could be looking to upgrade at third base.
Bobby Abreu, RF
Prediction: Option declined, but re-signs on a 3-year, $34M deal with the Yankees
Analysis: The Yankees hold a $16M option for 2008 that is not worth exercising though Abreu's dramatic resurgence in August will make them think twice. However, Abreu remains an asset to them and they should look to rework a deal. |

where did you get those predictions? the analysis of AROD totally ignores the fact that the yankees can restructure his deal before he opts out, so they are essentially playing around with $7 million from the Rangers. The yankees will be able to offer far more than any other team because of that. Additionally, they can front load the contract so he will make a ridiculous amount in the beginning (because of the rangers payments), and then lace the backend with incentives ontop of a ridiculously high base. THe yankees are definitely in the drivers seat. |
