Storm pics are hard to get around here, there's just too much in the way. I'd love to be somewhere out in the open like that, with my wide angle lens and a tripod to try and grab some 20 second (or more) exposures.

i took this pics from my car window. the storms were w/in 15 miles...didn't want to risk getting hit by lightning. so i just powered down the window and reached out. lol.
general exposure rates were 80-100 ISO, f-stop of 6.3-8.0, shutter speed of 1/4 sec - 1/2 sec.
The sun was setting to the west - REALLY helped on lighting up the whole storm. plus perfect position, and nothing in the way as far as ground based obstacles. found a great spot just about 1 mile away from my house to sit and watch (lol, was under powerlines during it...oops). |
