I couldn't care less about convention, I just feel people should wear whatever they feel more comfortable with. The way I see it, etiquette exists so we can treat people better and make them feel appreciated. If I don't feel comfortable with the way I am at the moment, I will at one point or another let that come out, and thus fail to make others feel appreciated, as I will have failed to appreciate myself first. As you'd probably put it, this is more like a "narcissist quirk", rather than a fashion statement.
Besides, I couldn't care less about what others are wearing, so if you do care about the way I dress, you're probably not a person I want to be around. It's always worked like a charm.

Why, of course it isn't, I never said it is. Besides, we grew up together, he knows me far too well, and he knows what I'm like. If he invited me, he invited the person I am, not the person he wants me to be. It's not like I streak around naked or anything like disturbed the peace. If he were a person I hardly knew, and that could take an offence by whatever reason, and I was in an unknown environment, I'd probably make an exception because it'd go against what I said before (though I'd then ask myself why I'd be going at all). But this was not the case.

Well, that's how I am in general (I'm not talking about my shoes any more here). You seem to take the way you see life as an absolute truth, and I don't really care as it's an opportunity for me to see how other people think and feel. However, if you don't like the way I think, the way I behave, or even the way I dress (!), you'd probably not stand me in real life either for more than a couple of hours... it's all good, really
