no you're wrong, i'm actually very practical. and don't even get me started on the whole argument about why we humans feel the need to spend countless dollars on name brand clothes. lol i mean break it down to the very core of why. it IS all about feeling important and rich and spending money on popular brands that other people think are acceptable and popular because they portray an image of wealth and quality. lol that's exactly what it's about. just because you don't openly brag about the expensive clothes you bought, doesn't mean you are above the whole reason behind buying them. do you know how many chicks would prefer a LV bag that is made of pure leather over a regular old purse that is also made of pure leather? and why?

And I dunno about out there, but here, we see this all the time and don't have to "feel" important by wearing these clothes. Maybe I just don't see it since I am not a woman. Guys out here, no matter what social class, seem to be less about wtf they are wearing (not that none of those types exist here) and more about acting like a ing tool to be cool.

dude it's gotta be at least 2 times worse in L.A. than down here. lol although miami IS pretty bad in terms of needing "things" to look cool or important (nice cars and gucci sunglasses, etc...).
and i just assumed you were talking about me w/ the impractical comment because i was the only one who said i was really practical and then you basically said anyone who says that is full of and that if we were rich, we WOULD spend 5k on a handbag. you're definitely wrong on that.
that's not to say i wouldn't splurge on things if i was rich. i'm just picky about the things i would splurge on guess and it has to make some sense. watches are about the only thing i can think of spending lots of money on and not feeling guilty. i guess you could say that's the same as a handbag lol

The funny thing is, while LA is one hell of a ing rat race, in my own experience, it never seems as bad as everyone makes it out to be. And mind you, I grew up in ing cow town California.
Also, no I wasn't saying specifically you were or weren't practical, I was just saying that living within your means has nothing to do with practicality. You can be impractical and still live within your means. You can also live above your means, and still be practical otherwise.
And you missed my whole point about the "I'll never buy " statement. The thought of what you will or will not buy all stems from your income. If you can afford, without any large effect on your standard of living and way of life, you will buy whatever you can afford at that time. This is not wrong by any means. Okay, maybe YOU won't, but again, there are exceptions.
Last, you contradict yourself. You say you won't, but then you say "it has to make sense" in your last thing. This goes back to my original point, that what "makes sense" is relative. If you make 1.5m/yr, spending $500 on a pair of jeans is like working for 10 minutes. This "makes sense" because it is just a small part relative to your total income.

yea i know i sort of ended on a hypocritical note. look, i like fashion and i like looking good but i also think that it has gotten to be a LITTLE ridiculous how much people are into it and name brands and judge people based on how much they spent on their shirt. i know not everyone who buys $300 jeans isn't like that, but most are.
i guess my only point is that i find more pride in announcing that i only spent $30 on a great pair of jeans as opposed to being proud of saying i went to bloomingdales and spent $250 on a pair of jeans.

Hey getting a good ing deal is awesome. I can't knock anyone for that. As I mentioned before. I went to a guess outlet and got two $100 pair of jeans for $70 (the deal was 2 for 64 and tax brought it to $70.) Deals are great.
I can sympathize with your judging and price thing. I agree it has gotten out of hand. No doubt there. Just don't delude yourself with the thought that if you had the means, you would still live like a $20 hooker with a $1.5m/yr salary. Or even a $250k/yr salary.
A good friend of mine said something utterly ridiculous. "I would never buy a Ferrari. It isn't practical." My reply was, "You don't buy a Ferrari to be practical. It is not practical by any means." You have to remember that being "practical" is all relative to many things.

yea but that's the thing. i think that if you are spending 100$ or more on a pair of jeans (on any one pair of jeans), OR (even better) if you think spending $100 on a pair of jeans is a bargain, then you should be making at least 6 figures. THAT is being practical. do you know how many people are living above their means just to be "in"? lol it's insane.
