cute little smiley...but it doesnt seem like your argument is justified for it...
The difference between Steinbrenner and the rest of the owners in baseball are that he is in one of the largest market in the states and he uses his money CORRECTLY...
Carl Polhad, the owner of the Twins, is probably 10 times richer than Stienbrenner...why hasnt HE tried to sign the free agents the Yankees swooped up??
youre coming off as if you gain pleasure out of any..ANY...mistake they make...why try and downplay the great tradition they earned?? i dont think theyre arrogant, but i definitely do think theyre proud...26 World Championships is something to be proud of...and seeing that the closest competitor is st louis with 9, i cant exactly blame the team for being a WEE bit arrogant...
but anyway, the yankees are in a better situation to make more money...but grant them that they DO help the little guy (aka your team) through the luxury tax, and i'll respect the fact that the A's have developed a jewel of a farm system (through guess what? the YANKEE FORUMLA)...
but not giving credit to the hard work the yankees put into this situation and calling them just a bunch of "bought all stars" is simply wrong...steinbrennar tried doing this in the early 90's and it got him nowhere...he has a certain formula and he's put the money in the right places...that's why he's the best...
and finally, i identify with the yankee style of play...their business-like approach and professional attitude makes me love the yanks even more...they dont exactly throw it your face, now do they?
instead of blaming us cuz we're so good, why dont you ask your A's why didn't Jeremy Giambi slide? |
just one question before i start: why'd you have to throw in the last comment? that basically just proves DannyB's point about arrogant yankee fans. also, not saying you because i can see you actually KNOW what you are talking about, but 75% of yankee fans are only fans after '96. of those 75%, 50% are girls between the ages of 12-18 who like jeter and the fact that they win. i can name more yankee players than most yankee fans can. thats sad. yankee fans are not baseball fans. they are fans of winners. if all of the yankee players went to the mets and the mets players to the yankees, 85% of yankee fans would be mets fans. sorry, have to end this abruptly. |

alright, ENOUGH! we need a sports forum now. :p i am not a girl who hates sports (i am actually a Yankees & Braves fan) but this can get too heated.
Shamey, you are right though. I am an after 96 fan and I don't know every player (I don't like Jeter however!) AND I know many of the kinds of fans you refer to. but i ALSO know a lot of harcore Yankees fans who were with them from the start and they are REAL fans. So let's not all generalize here. Sports should be fun....that's why I like baseball: cause it's fun! And I might love the Yanks but I will attend ANY team's game and have a good time.
Anyway, I am guesing we aren't having a PPR day at the stadium anytime soon? LOL! |

and like i said: you can't exactly blame us for being arrogant some of the time...but i dont see how the last comment is showing arrogance...if giambi sled (slid? slode? :conf: ), the A's wold have won that game and at the very least have one postseason series win against us...and thank you for the compliment..much appreciated :toothless...
and it's sad but youre right...a lot of our so-called fans are merely people on the bandwagon...i became a fan in '91 when they lost over 100 games and if memory serves me correctly cecil feilder hit his 50th and 51st homer against them at the end of that season...
oh yeah, and remember these names?
mel hall, steve balboni, roberto kelly, jimmy leyritz as a rookie (the most hot headed kid you'd ever seen), bernie williams at 150 pounds soaken wet, kevin maas, matt nokes, steve sax, jesse barfield, winfield vs. steinbrenner, the damn red sox sweeping all 12 games in the '91 regular season...yeah, i could look back at those days and be proud i stuck with them...
but half the reason why i watched was to listen to phil ruzzutto call the game...he was hilarious...i miss him now :sadgreen: :sadgreen: :sadgreen:

you are QUITE welcome, dear, although no thanks are necessary. NOW, as for the toothless, have you not been a toothless sticky recipient? OR were you just unaware of it's power before? WE are all :toothless -addicts here. It's like our symbol or something.
My toothless sticker is currently stuck to my monitor so that I can always look at it fondly and remember happy times with PPR crew! (insert SPECIAL THANKS to RICK here:_____________*muah* )

and see... i am a fan of the 'other' team (who by the way isn't much of a team now) and i knew most of those names. ha. also, i hope you arent the type of fan that when asked 'who is the best baseball player now?' says (insert random yankee player here) i love the Mets. but there is not one position player on the mets that is the best in his position.
right - vladimir guerrero (best player in baseball)
center - jim edmonds
left - barry bonds (1 of 2 of the best hitters in the game)
third - albert pujols (the other of the best hitters in the game, and he's around 15 years younger than Bonds!!!)
shortstop - alex rodriguez (even though it took 26$ million to get him there)
second - alfonso soriano (he could definitely fall off tho. he swings at THE worst pitches)
first - todd helton
catcher - pudge rodriguez (though he's gettin up there)
and we all know about the mets pitching...
btw, sorry bree, but this is the post padding room. we can talk bout whatever, whenever! |

uh oh...the OTHER team...haha!! :whip: :whip: :whip: i remember when i was 5 years old in puerto rico watchin the world series and my mother jumping up and down in joy...and i sat back and wondered why was jesse orosco doing the same thing with his glove?? :D
but how about these names: mackey sasser, tim teufel (shuffle), jeff innis, rafael santana, juan samuel, HoJo, and wally backman ;)...
but as per your opinions of the best in the game...i like...here are my players by position:
Right: Sammy Sosa
Center: andruw jones (sorry, but andrew is the next willie mays and is the only centerfielder that breaks b4 the pitch is even delivered to the plate!!)
Left: Bonds (another obvious one)
third: pujols (didnt think you'd pick this one as well)
shortstop: Miguel Tejada (im already waiting for decibel's response on this one  ;))
second: jeff kent (im going with him because he's proven himself, but soriano will definitely be there in due time...and remember: he can swing at crap because he probably has quicker hands than gary sheffield)
first: Helton (good pick)
catcher: Pudge
and pitcher: I'd take Shilling over Johnson... |
