i am now dating this girl who hates trance
we've been friends for a while but have been seeing each other more and stuff
but she just absolutely hates trance.
i asked her to listen to my fav trance song of all time: Chicane - Halcyon, to which she just cringed
should i just give up? isn't music compatibility important between a girl you date?
i give up!

chris dude, I'll tell you this...... I don't want to piss you off or anything, but music is important at least for me. Because I swear I cannot listen to anything other than trance music, and my gf sometimes pisses me off...i.e. when I heard nothing but I freaked out, and she just looked at me like....yea great tune ha ha ha! I was like d00d if it was bri or dee I we would all be jumping around like idiots through the whole club. I think music can make for a really strong connection. But that's just me, other people are different.

porkness, dr. ruth here :)
i know exactly what you're trying to say... i saw a few guys who just weren't into this music, they said it all sounded the same and that it was boring.. i remembering letting out a big *GASP* as one of them dissed pvd's music. it was like he was dissing my mom...i was def. heartbroken.. they look at you all weird when you get a burst of energy and happiness while listening to beautiful trance/prog tunes..
for me personally (and i would say, on behalf of most of the TAs i know here) that music has become such a huge part of our lives that it's, as armando said, a whole other level of connection/bonding.. it's far beyond just a hobby for us.. it's a way of life.. this is the music we live by. i dunno if that's those words are too strong but i honestly can't be with someone who doesn't like (even on a minimal level) trance and prog because in the long run, i know it's bound to cause problems.. ("u wanna come to pvd?" "no way.." or.. "why are you always posting on that damn board?" "cuz.. i love trance and that's where my friends are that love trance too") it's happened before :(
how long have you been seeing this girl? |

awwwwwww sweetie! i know how you feel. i think we all do. i have had to step away from lots of "opportunities" because of my love of trance. as silly as it may seem to some, this is my life and it's a HUGE part of me. i want someone to share it with...i want someone who can be IN THE CAR WITH ME and when "For an Angel" comes on (or something like that) we BOTH _IMMEDIATELY_ shut the hell up and blast the volume. the music doesnt have to take us to the same place as long as we embark on the journey together. i don't know about you guys, but i am holding out till i find that ONE.
but good luck, babe. follow your heart. |

hmm... i've been friends with her for awhile... but i feel as if she just wants me for other 'physical' reasons...
it's weird but when she tells me she hates trance, i feel as if she is telling me she hates me. i ask her... "Do you like the music on my webpage?" to which she replies "er... no".
music, esp trance is a big part of my life. i think i'm going to have to be strong like Brianna and cut the 'opportunities' simply to wait for someone who is as crazy about trance as i am. music is a way of life. for me, it occupies my entire life. ppl think i'm crazy travelling to nyc/boston/toronto to see pvd, "Again! sheesh!!!" but they don't realize how much of a religion it is for me.
women! i give up!

pork u sound like you have other doubts besides just the music, but that is just my opinion.
personally- i can not date anyone who isn't passionate about any sort of music or artist. you see i have always dated someone who is passionate about some sort of music, and those that are, are easiest to break into trance, which in turn makes it easier to get them to go out to a club or listen to it in the car. that is just my expeirence.
just the fact that she answers that she will not even attempt to listen to trance and says that it sounds all the same, just means that she really is not putting any effort into trying to like what you like.
yes the realtionship is new and you have time to influence her! i can not tell you how many people i have made a pvd mix and their response is *always* positive. not once have i gotten a negative response.
trance is kinda like classical music- you need to listen more to appreciate it- it is an aquired taste...
pork i can not come to toronto that day- it is easter.. i might have to work, and then spend some time with my family. the holidays this year are special to me b/c i am leaving in august for germany and i will only see my family for x-mas this year... :(...
alright enough ranting... off to work *yuck* |
