hey now, we dorks (ill speak for myself) need to feel proud whenever we can... the chances are few and far between. after all, if coolness were measured by who could explain what the 'poynting vector' is, how'd we all stack up ??
|
let me try to remember something from my EM fields class from last term. Wasn't the pynting vector associated with the direction/ location of power flow in a medium (e.g. a twin-wire cable)?
-looking at my book-
S (Poynting vector) = E x H
The units are W/m^2 and it defines the power density of an EM wave through a surface.
In short: if you have a EM wave propagating you can compute how much power is transported through a certain area using this vector. It also defines the direction of this propagation, but it will always be in the direction of the wave, since for a circular waveguide E point outwards and H curls around it, therefore the cross product will point in the direction of charge travel. |

so, in my scheme, i guess this would put schranz up at the top of the pyramid with david hasselhof :haha: :haha: :haha:
i couldn't even have explained it that well and my e&m textbook is on the shelf 2 ft away from me... |

i did take a quick peek to refresh my memory. I knew that it had something to do with power transportation of EM waves. the details is what i did not remember :)
thanks, but i hate David Hasselhof... :whip: :whip: |

Hi all!!!! just got in from work/school...teusday's suck...school early and all day then straight to work...yuck!
BriEEEEE!!! yes brie rocks, but camembert is a touch better, especially goat cheese camembert.... 2 years ago, i went to a cheese distributor (all around food distributor) with the executive and sous chef, to try out some new cheeses for our cheese plate and it was heaven. i love cheese (food) of all kinds, there must have been over 1000 cheeses and this place was about the size of roxy's dance floor just filled with cheese to the ceiling... this guy took us around and we got to taste so much cheese it was great....ah that was a great day....
no bri there is nothing wrong with crushes at all, i still get them not as much as i used to so crushes diminish as you get older in my expeirence....the thing is to distinguish between a crush and love....
now love, that is quite a feat......
hey drizzt like the font in your sig, do you think you could post the alphabet in that font...(no joke). i have a few old german dictionaries and it is in that font and it takes some time to figure out the letters.....so i need a reference....:D danke |
