Kalpana Chawla was a wonderful person. I had the honor to meet her when she came back to UTA to talk about her experiences. She promised me that when she returned safely from her mission today that she would get in contact with me to talk to me about my career as an Astronaut. I have always had a dream of being an Astronaut since I was a very young child. I have models of the space shuttle all over my room. I was looking forward to have the chance to talk to her and continue on with my dream of being an astronaut. But it appeared to me that it all just came to a halt.
I am going to continue on with my dream with her in mind and the crew of the Challenger from January of 1986. I hope you guys understand how important this is to me, and I wish for everyone on here to have her and the rest of the STS-107 crew in your prayers tonight. I'm sorry for bringing down the mood of the room today, but I just wanted to let you guys know how I am feeling today since you all mean sooooo much to me. I think it's affected me more than most people I know because I just saw my insperation for school and life destroy in front of my eyes. You guys have no idea how scarey it is when you're standing outside watching it go by and then explode. After that 30 seconds later you hear a loud BOOM that shakes the whole house and sets off car alarms. I literally broke down right there because I knew that something had gone wrong, and my good friend was on board. So please forgive me if I've changed the mood of the room, but I wanted to share this with all my close friends that I've met in this room :( . Love you and see you guys soon.

hey armando, it's totally cool to vent and we still love you for it-- no vibe brought down here.. if anything, it brings us together..and it Is a sad time... i was telling others before: it's so strange how we see others technology so advanced, thinking space travel is so routine that stuff like this could never happen...but yet it does and it has today. it was so horrible watching it on television, i got tears in my eyes and shivvers down my back.. i just could not imagine being near to there.. i totally feel for you as well, losing such an inspiration like this.. i hope your faith keeps strong in what you want to do.. we love you too buddy..

im so sorry to hear that armando. i know we're not that close really, but if you feel like talking about it, every single one of us is here to listen to whatever. that's the purpose of this room, not to talk about NYC and Trance... but just about us. so whatever you feel like saying, say it. especially since it will be easier because it's on the computer, ya know? well, my regards to you and everyone else involved. but don't let this destroy your dreams. thats the purpose of life. do what you love and love what you do. take care, we're all here.
