i don't use the codes, i change my keyboard over. i went to contol panel then to keyboard options then language. i leave it in my tray so when i want to use those characters i just change it over. from what i remember it is the same keyboard set up in germany, but i forget. so the ß is next to the 0. öäü are the ;'[ keys respectively.
this way is just easier for me when i type papers, you just have to figure out the whole layout of the keyboard. the y and z keys are reversed. i think i know of the system you use i use it sometimes at work for french characters (i work at a restaurant and when making the menus up we use it) and it is a pain.
but it is all a matter of preference.

i know.. i hate switching back and forth.. i got my co-worker with my american keyboard layout on a german printed one soooo many times last summer. I just think that for programming in C/ Java the american layout is much smarter. I mean these {} parens are easily accessible, while in germany you need to hit "ALT-GR + <" or something.. major pain.
same for the @ sign etc. |
