philby, you could always set the difficulty down if you suck too much ass? there was always 1 mission i turned down to normal difficulty in tie fighter coz it was just ruthless, only ever managed to get through it once on hard.

THE controversial R18+ classification for games is still opposed by at least one state attorney-general, a spokesperson has confirmed.
The issue of introducing an R18+ classification for games will be raised at the next Standing Committee of Attorneys-General (SCAG) on March 28th. It has been off the political agenda since 2005.
At present, any game that exceeds an MA15+ rating must be refused classification in Australia.
The classification system can be modified if there is agreement from the Commonwealth and all state and territory attorneys-general.
But a spokesperson for Michael Atkinson, the South Australian Attorney-General, has confirmed that he will maintain his long-running opposition to the proposed system.
"The Attorney-General remains very firmly opposed to introducing an R rating for computer games in Australia," the spokesperson said.
Minister Atkinson would not consider an 18+ rating even if there were measures to protect children from being exposed to adult content, the spokesperson said.
"He doubts whether any safeguards could be put in place to deter young people, who after all (are) the most computer literate and savvy in our society, from being able to access material."
Most international videogame rating systems have an adult or 18+ category.
The Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA) has called for a more consistent ratings system to "bring Australia into alignment with the rest of the world".
"Harmonisation of the national classification scheme will provide Australians with a consistent and uniform system," the industry body said in a statement.
"(This) will allow consumers to make educated and informed decisions on their entertainment choices, regardless of the medium or delivery method.
"It will provide parents with a complete toolkit to manage children's game playing."
Last year, a study by Bond University for the IEAA found that more than 50 per cent of Australian gamers were aged over 18, making the average age 28.
"An R18+ classification will cater to the rising age of computer and video game players in Australia, allowing adult gamers to be treated as such and have broad choice in the types of games they play," the IEAA said. |
made me so ing angry i wrote (twice) to south australia's attorney general. |

Next time I see the Attorney-General (once or twice a year though) I'll ask him about this.
I'll also ask him if he got your letters ;) |

pfft suck too much ass? im a general baby with just under 1.5 million points so far. this is battle 9 mission 3 and 4. i had to turn difficulty down :( are there any good games more recent like tie fighter? i remember playing wing commander secret ops but that was about 5 years ago now i think.
no r18 sucks but at the same its not like we have really missed out on anything that has been refused classification. a couple of games have been changed slightly to make it to ma15 but the ones that have been banned here haven't exactly been shining examples of design. at the end of the day though i cant see why the option isnt available. if a developer wants to make something more mature involving adult themes or sex or perhaps more graphic violence then as an adult i should be able to make the choice myself if i want to try this game. i still dont get why the "somebody think of the children!" argument has so much power. the developer is not responsible for what you do in your home. if you have kids and you let them play games unsupervised, and if you dont involve yourself in the activity with them and you dont take an interest or make sure they dont play any games that they shouldnt then thats your problem as a parent. if you cant take responsibilty for them then again thats your problem. |

i never cared about the points, all i cared about was doing my emperor's bidding :D id quit every mission and re-start if i failed any secondary objective. as far as games like tie fighter, the closest ive seen since would be freespace 2. fantastic game, but not quite as epic. should be less than $10 now.

i actually used to think like that haha. when gaming was about "beating" instead of experiencing. but there is one mission in tie fighter that is just too bull hard.

I still have nightmares. At least with CoD1, 2 and 4 you have health packs or recharge health. In CoD:UO you have NOTHING AT ALL! It's ed right up! :whip:
I did it but Jesus Christ, I think I took off a good decade of my life on this series  |
