cool video showing the evolution of games. its ridiculous how many of the first versions of each genre ive actually played! that pong game was the very first game i ever got my grubby little hands on. must've been all of about 4 years old. |

looks like a lot of fun, but asides from the improved pyrotechnics, is there anything fundamentally new that theyre offering the genre? will prob DL. when's it due? |

lando! :D
they are changing the interface a little, i don't think there will be any kind of re-inventing or whatever, probably streamlining and taking bits of pieces from other games to make this one play better.

Happy with Oblivion but the dungeons get a little repetitive and my computer doesnt have the chops to handle the action sometimes. |

| well i guess no then hehe. what could you fundamentally change though? you build an army, then you blow up the other army. you can have variations in how you build the army i guess but yeah.. |

i dunno. it just seems that most genres really are hitting the wall in terms of evolutionary game mechanics and gameplay. since ive dumped my FPS obsession (mmmm maybe crysis being an exception) RTS is now where im at and i wanna see something different from this staple of the RTS diet. looked frigging awesome, but pyrotechnics can only hide the same template for so long.
maybe im just getting old and cranky. |

| it has some features with the way infantry work, you can tell them to move and then they look for cover and dig themselves in and stuff, so i guess they have made some advancements, it's still early days though :) if you look at warcraft 3, they put more rpg elements in and there was more character to it, but at the end of the day you build an army and blow up the other army. in dawn of war and company of heroes you fight for control on specific points to get the resources but you still get resources, build an army and then blow up the other army. i haven't played any of the total war games and the new warhammer mark of chaos but it seems like some changes they have are things like persistant armies and veteran skills/experience so you may get more attached to units and play more carefully but you have an army and blow up the other army. that is the fundamental aspect of the game, i don't think you can change that. with new technology and further evolution the way you go about building an army and the way you go about blowing up the other army will change, but the fundamentals will stay the same, thats why they are "fundamental" |
