COD2 will be the once Punkbuster comes out - been shot through fog and bushes too many times for now.

just levelled my shammy to 60 before christmas, a lil hard to play endgame instances without dedicating several hours at a time tho.

ALL star wars games suck arse (ok, except x-wing/tie fighter). hopefully this new one breaks the mould

choke on my balls philby! its not my fault lame games are apparently your bread and butter :p

now, heres my review for my latest purchase.

star wars: empire at war

have played a few hours now, mostly multiplayer galactic conquest, and so far, so good. things look good and the general strategy of the game has a few innovations here and there. its all a bit too rock-paper-scissor with the units for my liking, but that said it can take tremendous skill & planning to take out a stronger opponent.

graphics look great and run fine (even on my ty system) and the music is nicely done (1 musical score for each side in the conflict). much of the music is ripped straight outta the films, so if youre a nerd like me they bring memories of scenes to mind ;)

its gonna take longer to see how the balancing is (the ultimate difficulty in any RTS) but so far we havent found any blatant discrepancies.

the ability to wage a long-term conflict is pretty cool and offers a nice change of pace. havent touched the single-player campaigns coz thats not what i bought the game for.

if youre a fan of the SW then youll love this, if you just like decent RTS' then this could be for you, but we're definitely waiting on more MP maps coz for some reason its shipped with all.

8 lightsabers out of 10 (at the moment).

Was considering grabbing this game... then I read a few respected reviews that shifted my view. I love my RTS games... the whole rock-paper-scissors idea has been done quite a bit... I dont mind it as it keeps things balanced, the trick is to also have resources which are also rock-paper-scissors eg. Age of Mythology

well, if youre talking about the ign review i wouldnt pay too much attention to it, imo its off the mark in several respects. i was a bit tentative about buying it also. but im happy at the moment. sure, its not the elegant simplicity that warcraft 3 was, but the galactic conquest MP option is loads of fun to play. but no, i wouldnt recommend (yet) it to any hardcore RTS fan for its strategic or tactical significance.

Actually it was the IGN review... they have been on the money with a lot of games I play so I take a lot of what say into consideration before grabbing a game. Im guessing the Star Wars RTS game would be more for someone who loves Star Wars than say war3/generals/age of empires

yeah, that review put me off a bit too, coz theyre normally pretty accurate. i think too much of the review was spent on the single player to be honest, and the greater strategic qualities come to bear when playing the MP campaign. im hoping im enough of a games lover to dissociate between star wars and the game, but i cant promise anything :D all i can say is as a gamer & a SW fan so far ive been enjoying it quite a lot. whether ill be playing it in 12 months time is another story (we still play WC 3 for instance) but its challenging enough (for me at least) for the time being :)

they do have several challenges, such as land a plane in foggy conditions with an extreme crosswind, landing the plane with a malfunction, fly from one place to another place, perform stunts etc

with the new version of flight simulator they are talking about placing alot more emphasis on such features

there is just something fun about flying a plane as if it were real, which is entirely possible within the sim, from starting the engines, takeoff procedures to landing and shutdown

man i love Flight Simulator 2004, cant get enough i want the next one to come out.
i love perfecting my ILS approach.

i just don't understand how anyone could possibly think the original C&C is lame! i don't get it! it is basically the reason RTS games exist! never mind that it will never be removed from my top 3 games ever but seriously how can you fault it?

hahahahaha. oh, i love the position of the one-eyed fan. basically the reason RTS exist?? i played my first RTS in 1992 ish. well before CnC was in development. oh, and there was 1 particularly stand-out game in the RTS genre that really got things rolling. you might have heard of warcraft? :p

i played the first CnC for 2 weeks before i sold it to a friend. bored the absolute bollocks out of me. thought the entire game was thoroughly uninspiring. though the vids were pretty cool. each to their own fellas ;) just wasnt for me.

skipped the next few coz i hated the first, but played generals for the 1st time last year. wasnt uber , but as far as RTS games go, well below things like frozen throne or dawn of war imo.
Philby
i am not completely one-eyed but yes the game means a lot to me. you may have played your first RTS in 92 but how many have you played between then and c&c? and how many have you played since c&c? you may think its good but you can't deny the impact it had on the genre. the interface was so much better than dune 2 and warcraft. warcraft 1 had basically 1 race with 2 different colours! to be honest warcraft 2 didn't really increase the variety either. c&c had some of the same units on either side but they also had different units which needed different approaches. the base building in warcraft 1 was a lot more frustrating too with all the bloody roads you had to build. the mission progression in c&c was really good, the story was interesting, game stories are hardly oscar winning material but it was still exciting, different ending movies depending on what you did and how can you top kane???? sure ogrin doomhammer would probably disembowel kane in a fist fight but who the hell is ogrin doomhammer? just a name with a back story. i think your dislike of c&c stems from some recessed memory of a complete pwnage in multiplayer or something, you cannot be a gaming fan and especially an RTS fan and say you didn't like c&c.
