my dad went to a swapmeet and got a parts list for a new pc, had a couple of differences, don't suppose you could go through what you chose and why? so i can show my dad what someone has actually bought

with pleasure my good friend philby :)

1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.130GHz 2Mb Cache 1066FSB

-bang for buck. the faster core 2 duo processors are just too expensive. the 6400 is a great overclocker, outperforming the stock 6600 & 6700 easily.

1 x G.Skill 2GB 2GBNR PC2-6400 DDR2-800 Dual Channel

-always buy in 2x ram packages these days. 800Mhz coz it can overclock to 1067 no probs, but isnt as expensive as a lot of the top of the line ram.

1 x Seagate CUDA 250GB 7200.10 16MB SATA2 II NCQ 5YR

-meh. only got this coz my mboard doesnt support more than 2 IDE devices (ie your optical drives & older hard drives, of which ive got plenty)

1 x GIGABYTE 965P-DS3 P965+ICH8 Intel Core2 Duo Socket 775 FSB1066

-pretty much the fastest 965 chipset (according to anandtech.com), very nicely priced ($218) and hopefully with the new BIOS updates, theyve fixed the overclocking issues :) is basically a performance board for cheap price tag :)

1 x PALIT GeForce 8800GTS 500/1600MHz 640MB GDDR3 320-bit PCIE

-MWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA :D currently the 8800s are the fastest vid cards on the planet, and i wanted one :) ATI are releasing their R600s some time soon and i expect to be surpassed, but i can only run a 1280x1024 resolution on my monitor anyway, and its already serious overkill :p i wanted a state of the art vid card for once in my gaming life :) the performance of the 8800 series are incredible, but this piece (which is the slower of the 2) still stung me for $680 :(
Philby
cool, where did you buy it from? i what the swapmeet guy wrote says a 6600, p5b (?), 2gig 667 kingston ram, 256mb 7950 gt, 550 w power supply and i think a 320 gig 16 something hard drive? for 1500 with the case. the video card is only $365 but i would change it to something like yours, i might have to contribute to it hehe.

that sound like a pretty good setup for the price. the motherboard is slightly older but honestly, people like us wouldnt be able to notice!

i ordered mine from ITeLECTRICAL

the 7950 GTs are excellent cards, but not DX10 compatible. if thats the only part you have to contribute to, id shell out that little bit extra for an 8800 or the new ATI cards due by the end of the month ;) but then again this is the very last gaming system i am expecting to buy.

get it son! with that setup you and i can play some supreme commander & CnC3 together :) edit: oh yeah, except i wont have the net at home soon :(
pkcRAISTLIN
ooooh! for the open-ended RPG fans :)

two worlds

sounds like it has some really cool gameplay components, with real cause & effect relationships in the world. non-linear storyline with several endings, and numerous ways to complete quests. since gothic 3 was so buggy, im wanting something new. this is due in march so not long to wait now!

also doesnt have the painfully repetitive click-click-click fighting of either gothic or elder scrolls.

cool, i might start to try saving then hehe. although my dark angels space marines for 40k are getting updated in feb/march, so could be a while ;)

why won't you have the net at home anymore?
pkcRAISTLIN
mwahahahahaha. ahhhh, my nerdiness pales into comparison king philby :p

im moving into the unit i bought early last year, and not sure i could afford the net just yet :( certainly couldnt afford a connection that i have become accustomed to. damn my salary!

still, my new PC + supreme commander should keep me busy :D
