they indeed all did very well at the box office.
but serious sam is just too repetitively samey. played it for half an hour and just couldnt bring myself to play anymore. imo its an FPS for the console-minded.
i wont bitch about fear again but yeah, overated and what i thought was a terrible engine.
id choose between bf2, q4 & cod 2 if youre on a budget. of course if youre just gonna steal them then it doesnt matter does it.
support your game designers: if you really love a game you DL, buy the original. |

i've only tried ss2 demo, and thought ~.. but the original ss's were AWESOME.. huge environments, and loads of fun! when I do eventually get round to ss2, I sure better not be dissapointed! :/ |

i tried the demo of the first one, it was alright, but i don't like games when the enemies just randomly keep generating as much |

that's like the point of it!
doom style! insane action! the enemies keep rollin in n rollin n
it's a shooting showdown.. it's mayhem.. it's FUN
and the huge environments, and at the time, REALLY impressive graphics and scenes, it all came together nice, was a blast to play
i thought the demo was impressive, and the final game came together really nicely, although by the end, omg yes it was quite repeatitive, but never the less quite fun! |

| yeah it was fun and some of the enemies were interesting, like the guys running around with a bomb as their head hehe. but it just seemed like a quick blast for a while and then you get sick of it. |

well said. there was simply no AI at all. things were merely programmed to run at you. *yawns* if youre a ridiculously skilled marksman like myself, there was no challenge. loved the ideas in the game though. just wish the execution showed more polish. |

don't forget Half Life 2...you'll need a pretty grunty machine and video card to appreciate any of the above mentioned games. |

Still, none of these games will even match Oblivion.
check out the movies here
damn, hope this game even runs well on this computer :o or in need of a new PC. |

| lol, I agree oblivion is looking good, but a big call to say that the above don't have anything on it...but if that floats your boat.....float it! |

Ive finished Half Life 2, and thought it had great physics but the story was short lived. I didn't like the original and i know thats a bigger thing to say since it recieved greatest game ever awards and stuff.
Half Life 2, had beautiful graphics but was too limited.
FEAR, the more i'm playing it, i feel it is too repetitive. I mean, sure the graphics are crazy, the physics are better than HL2 and.. it has slow motion. But once you jump into a stage, you've played them all.
Quake 4, i admit i haven't played this game yet but what ive seen so far and by reviews. It doesn't look too good. I mean they used the same engine from Doom which is a bad thing because i felt it had too much flaws. Sound effects are pretty bad too compared to FEAR which had unbelievable sfx and music.
Oblivion, now i'm still playing part 4, Morrowind. This game is bloody huge. In Morrowind there was hardly any restrictions, graphics were mind blowing for when it came out and story was second to none. Oblivion, it uses kinematics to control movements of other characters, the physics of weather and environments are even better and you can basically interact with anything. They even show a storm moving trees in the direction of the wind, now thats smart!
But Oblivion kind does fall into a different genre, its more RPG than FPS so no use comparing to the list from above. But still, i think it will take Game of Year like Morrowind did :D |

this is where your thinking begins to derail. id like you to point out some of the flaws in doom's engine. having (in your opinion) lesser sound effects is not a flaw of an engine btw. doom still has the best engine there is. stable, can be run on older machines, engine holds together well. fear looked like a slightly updated raven shield engine by comparison.
im hanging out for quake wars: enemy territory though! now that looks like it could be a lot of fun.
could you convince me to re-install morrowind psygnosis? tell me whats so good about it and i may give it a second chance :) |
