| dont try and scare me with your sorcerer's ways pkc! your pathetic devotion to that ancient mouse hasn't helped you conjure up leet skillz0r in getting tanks early on in company of heroes, or given you clairevoyance enough to realise that c&c is a better series! :toothless |

now here is a game that has its roots in the 80s! this is the most elegantly simple game i have played, possibly ever. you take the role of one superpower, and your goal is to kill as many people with nuclear missiles as possible.
the first thing to notice is the interface, a wire-frame graphics setup that looks like what you might think the pentagon might use in times of war. simple, but effective. there are no wizz-bang graphical special effects here kids! but i love it. the entire interface is customizable, able to move your bars and info graphs etc to wherever you want them. very cool.
a round begins with placement of various units, from ICBM launchers to fleets, aircraft fields & radar arrays. there are different options for different games, allowing more units for slightly longer games. the ultimate goal is to ensure as many of your nuke missiles make it to the enemy cities as possible and you score points for every million citizens you kill. the strategy here isnt really complicated, there are only so many units to use after all, but its still good fun.
the sound effects are again very simple but the low rumble when your nuke hits a city is very cool. the background music is melodically eerie and certainly suits the style of game that it is.
the game has a fast-forward feature if things are taking a little long, which can happen from time to time. fleets & subs especially take a bloody long time to get where theyre going.
this isnt going to change the face of strategy gaming, but a lot of bigger & more expensive titles should pay attention to some of the options available in this budget title. the game is 50 Mb installed, and stable as a motherfvcker.
if destroying innocent lives with nuclear technology is your cup of tea, then check this puppy out. im not sure ill be playing it a year from now, but its really good to see something different produced at such a high standard.

NHL 2007
since FPSs no longer interest me ive been branching out. and sports games are so much better than they were in the mid 90s!
ive never had as much fun with a sports game than with the latest ice hockey offering from EA. ice hockey is truly one of the greatest sports on the planet- which other team sport has actual rules that govern fighting! :D brilliant.
anywayz, having not played any previous versions i have nothing to compare this game to. all i know is its a whole lot of fun and ice hockey kicks ass! graphics are fine, nothing special but thats hardly important. variety of sound and viewing options keeps things entertaining, and i just love a crowd cheering me on ill admit!
controls are pretty easy to get your head round, though i had to wiki some words coz i didnt know what they meant.
if anyone is an expert id love for some advice on how to score more goals coz my % is ing low. but that just makes the goals all that much sweeter. yeah, how you like those apples medium difficulty CPU?
my favourite bit thus far is managing to smash an opposing player through the plexi-glass surrounding the rink. there were cheers (from the crowd and from me). cant wait til i can LAN this up coz smashing mates to the icey surface is well ing fun!
