If the game won't run properly at that res on an ample machine it shouldn't be available as an option imo. You can see the quality of work just by playing the game. I dunno if those years of delays went into 50 ground up rebuilds of the engine or what, but they ended up omitting features AFTER delays? Meh.

that has to like render 4x as much than at 1280, it's even higher than 1080..
you might get away with hl2 because that uses predominantly static lightmaps
where as full dynamic lighting in stalker, is just that, full dynamic lighting, no way.
Fledz
Well, that res is insane. Still should run ok, it shouldn't be stuttering or anything.

how many mb is your video card? something tells me you'd want 512, the shadow maps at that resolution would be massive

It is a 512mb card. It's ample for most stuff, that's why I'm saying it's weird that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. runs like a slideshow with lighting turned up, esp considering the fact that the engine is ancient.

the engine is ancient if you don't use dynamic lighting... ;)
otherwise it is the latest, dx9.
recommended spec is core2duo machine, dx9 card. and for good reason, if you expect to play on full dynamic lighting.
what's it like at 1280 and full dynamic lighting?

Will try abit later on tonight when I get bored of anime and music lol

nonsense. games arent made just for the here and now, higher res' should be an option for cards & CPUs down the line.

who wants my 640Mb 8800? :D now i just need that new monitor...
deceptikon
I was considering a 8800GTX but I think I'll hold out for Intel CPU prices to drop and the new generation of ATI cards to come out before I upgrade.

Have you seen Intel's new pricing for 3rd Q 2006? You will be able to get processors with pocket change, and most will be better than the ones we have now. w00t :D
