| We have another, stronger cold front coming this week, which should drop temps quite nicely. That means it's time for ye olde annual viewings of The Shining and The Fellowship of the Ring. The remastered Shining BD is a thing of beauty. I have the UHD disc as well, but I don't have a player yet. I gotta get on that now that we have a UHD TV with HDR and 10-bit color support. Come a long way since watching NSTC 480i broadcast as a kid. |

I'm sure all the movie buffs are aware, but just in case: https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/n...ember-1st/45490
If industry sources are true to their word, Weta Digital went back to the original camera negative (OCN) for all the live action shots (4K scan), and they did a 4K scan of the "film outs" for the VFX shots. All the VFX were rendered at 2K, then printed back to 35 mm film in what is called a "film out". So, those are locked at 2K, but they are still being scanned in at 4K, along with the rest of the 35 mm OCN.
If UHD BD is not your thing, Warner has also announced a remastered standard BD set coming in late 2021. Either way, I just hope to god they fixed the ty ass green tint color timing on the extended edition of Fellowship. |

| My UHDs of The Lord of the Rings shipped yesterday. Very much looking forward to those, especially the correction of the green tinted e color timing on Fellowship. |

| That trilogy is so good, but imo the hobbit films blow. I prefer the hobbit over lotr in book form but they ed up the movies so much. Dreaming of the day for a proper adaptation of the silmarillian. But back to LOTR— May be my personal favourite movie of all time (counting them as one). I might watch them again since your post. I have pillows with maps of middle earth |

I enjoy the Hobbit trilogy only because it's an excuse to spend more time in Middle Earth. But, yes, LOTR blows it away. The new UHD discs are a sight to behold, apparently, so I am really looking forward to them!

| I’ll definitely need to buy a 4K tv if just to watch it. I’ll probably watch the hobbit sometime again but I only own the first one, why they stretched it out over three films is beyond me. I downloaded tenet, not too much expectations on it. |

I am raging Nolan fanboi, so I'll get the UHD/BD combo as soon as it's out. I'm sure it's over pretentious gobbeldy gook to the masses, but I don't care. I love his films. |

| Only reason it got me interested is Nolan! Hoping it has some inception like magic that captures me but I’ve read mixed reviews. |

Agreed. With Nolan, I always see the mixed reviews and say, ", I'll for me own opinion, thanks" and I have yet to be disappointed. He will eventually let me down, that's just life and statistics, but I shall enjoy the ride in the meantime. The fact that I got the wife to no only watch but actually enjoy Interstellar is a testament to Nolan's narrative ability. Initially she was all "ewww, sci-fi" but I explained that although there is sci-fi in the film, it's actually mostly our modern understanding of physics, but the entire heart and soul of the movie is "how far would you go, as a parent, to protect/save your child/family?" It's a family drama, just played out on a grand scale. That sold her and she loved it. |
