not a bad speech by Michelle. I'd like to see Cindy top that.

I guess I actually though it seemed fake at times as well, but that could be a variety of things.

I don't get Americans.

You all love discussing politics, even "young" people, yet only half of you actually vote?

People in this country couldn't give a about politics. It's a contentious topic that people rarely reverse their position on, and one which also causes a lot of discord and frustration, even between close friends, so the topic is rarely discussed. I wouldn't say it's "taboo", but it's known as something you don't bring up unless there is a specific reason. I've never seen the same from Americans.

Also, your politically system is weird. The elections go for like fifty years.

Call me ignorant, but after seeing "Hillary vs Obama" in our news for 6 months, then hearing that Hillary had pulled out, I thought "hey, Obama is going to be President".

Only then did someone explain to me that these two were from the same party and that the main election was still months and months away. :wtf:

p.s I saw on the news last night that a few "political karaoke" bars have opened up in America, where people can recite speeches from their favourite politicians via an on-screen prompt. That's ed up.

yeah...sometimes :D

ill keep my mouth shut if things arent being discussed, but if anyone says anything too outrageous its likely they'll get both barrels in the face from the sidelines :toothless

no surprises there.

not everyone does love discussing politics, as is evident by our election turnout.

our political system is weird. electoral college is bull. (wiki it if you know nothing about it). our political system is built to ensure it's a 2 party game.

this has been the longest election that has ever occurred. states can move up their primary dates which is what happened (yet again) this year. people announced their launch for presidency earlier than ever, so this election has been going on for quite awhile. I think primaries are good for elections though. It puts the candidates through tough questions and gets them to (ideally) sharpen their views (although I think this usually means changing their views to fit party platform/fit what voters want to be told).

political karaoke... now that is ed up.

Under our political system, the candidate/leader for each party is selected by the members of the party, then come election time we just choose which party we prefer.

It seems a bit superfluous for the general population to choose candidates for each party, considering that the two people have very similar stances and will only differ on a few things (right?).

Or do people within the same parties have polarised opinions on certain issues?

i think what beat blog is trying to say, is that presidential models suck the wang.
Spacey Orange
lol. someone's been confusing satire with reality.

Yeah, it's called proportional representation (or some other name). I've given a speech on it before.

I am an advocate of it.

Nuclear bomb on the McCain campaign? that's laughable. A few months ago she said she has never been proud of her country until now, and that America is a downright mean nation (please see figures as to how much aid money the US gave the world compared to the rest). Now she loves America.

Again, if you're going to talk about what somebody else has said, it's best to listen to more than the 10 second snippet Rush plays for you. Ever wonder why those stories died and people don't talk about them anymore? Cause people finally took the time to listen to the comments in the context in which they were delivered.
MeLLyMeL
hey now. I've only been able to vote in 1 election prior to this one and even though I live in NY - I already have my absentee ballot and will be sending it early so it counts :D

How original. Any time I make a comment that you disagree with you go crying that I got my info from a sound bite Rush played. I don't have to wonder why the stories died... I already know; because just like the john edwards story, and william ayres, tony rezko, ACORN, and all other things about Obama that could hurt him, the main stream media circles the wagon for him and buries it. They are in the tank just like you are. I heard the speaches in their entirety bro. Presumptive again. Sound bite or not, she said those words. But I'm the enemy for mentioning it and calling out hypocricy when I see it? Is there even one single thing that you even remotely disagree with that team Obama says or does? You defend every single iota of everything from your all merciful, all loving messiah. It's pied piper madness.

You're not alone, my girlfriend too was confused by the attention given to the Democratic party. It's probably because their political system is strikingly different, I reckon, because here in Brazil it wouldn't make any sense to talk about primaries and whatnot, since there are so many parties (and there are usually 3 or 4 major candidates). That, and:
