You could say that, yes. Either way, it's rigged beyond belief. |
Do you honestly believe that? The establishment in both parties is in a tizzy this year - they wanted Romney (or Giuliani) v. Clinton from the word go. The voters simply haven't run with that. |

I dont know if someone has brought this up yet, but Im genuinely concerned about the super-delegates. First of all, I think Billary would have to be CRAZY to accept a nomination that's against the popular vote, after they helped champion the SAME ISSUE in 2000. But in all honestly, I dont put it past her. I think shes a conniving bitch - the same conniving bitch that stole thunder from Al Gore's campaign when it was needed most.
So yeah, Im worried about that. If it does come down to the super-delegate vote, Ill probably be in Denver protesting. |
The whole nomination and election process in the U.S. is completely ed from that perspective. Even if you forgive the bipartisan nature of American politics and accept the fact that you really only have two choices, those choices really aren't even technically "yours."
The real electoral power always seems to lie outside the average American - the buzzword now is "super delegate" because it's the primaries, but it's really not entirely different from the electorate that will actually choose the president in November.
Plainly put: I'm very, very wary of elections that are not entirely ruled by popular vote, and don't genuinely believe that single Americans votes actually count for much of anything.

It won't - the latest math has Obama up over 150 in pledged delegates. There are only 850 superdelegates. Hillary would need to capture an inordinate amount of them at this point to catch up. Most of the scenarios envisioning a messy superdelegate total didn't foresee Hillary to be down by more than 50 pledged delegates at the end... and unless she has HUGE wins in Texas and Ohio (where polling is becoming close), Obama should have no difficulty securing enough superdelegates to seal the deal. |

Jeff, I've got to say I really appreciate the breakdowns coming from you this year - definitely makes some things that are relatively difficult for me to understand in the election process become much clearer.
PS: I applied for two jobs in/near D.C. this morning :o |

At least we actually have at least half the push towards who is actually president. |
And I too, appreciate what you have broken down for us. :) |

| Rob I agree with you, as usual. |

I just never want to hear about electoral votes again, when the election is over I want to hear "Obama won by ________ million votes" and not "Obama won the popular vote by _________ million votes, but McCain wins the electoral college".
I know it's been almost a decade, but man did that one ever hurt... :( |

I guess, but if everyone took that line then absolutely nothing would ever get done. The only public check we have on elections right now is the fact that at least a few of us go out and vote which means the parties have to at least try to appease us.
If we lose that, then we're really ed. Kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation we're in here. |

i figre theres enough people out there to "vote" that i don't have to waste my time.
i guess waste is a wrong word to use....but still, considering in the grand scheme of things, the fact that i could vote for one person, and my electoral college dude could vote for the other guy/gal is kind of a turn off to the whole system. |

Haha, it's true - I get a huge nerd boner for this stuff. Not sure if it's the poli sci major in me or the living in DC thing, but I pretty much keep tpmelectioncentral.com up all day long and hit update every ten minutes at work. In any case, I'm glad I can help out!
And let me know about the DC jobs - would be pretty sweet to finally meet and hang out! |
