No, no I got your point. Your political opinions aren't based on the merits of the candidates' platforms whatsoever.

Lol, that was quite the fun read right there - and just what I needed in lieu of any of the media covering the election anymore.

Did you see the Dodd interview just up on Huffington Post?

quote:

Look, we've got five more months to go before the Democratic convention at the end of August and, candidly, we cannot go five more months with the kind of daily sniping that's going on and have a candidate emerge in that convention. My hope is that it will be Barack Obama, but if it's Hillary Clinton, she too will suffer, in my view, from this kind of a campaign that I think is undermining the credibility and the quality of the two candidates that we have. We have two very strong candidates. So I'm worried about this going on endlessly and to a large extent, Linda, the media, a lot of these cable networks, are enjoying this. It's what is keeping them alive financially. The fact that this thing is going on forever, back and forth every day, all night -- I don't think it's really helping the candidates or the political institutions.

On a solution to the problem:

Dodd: Well, the solution is -- look, we've got a contest coming up in Pennsylvania and one in North Carolina and Indiana very quickly afterwards. In my view, the outcome of those three races will determine -- I think the race has been determined, anyway, at this point. I think it's very difficult to imagine how anyone can believe that Barack Obama can't be the nominee of the party. I think that's a foregone conclusion, in my view, at this juncture given where things are.

But certainly over the next couple of weeks, as we get into April, it seems to me then, that the national leadership of this party has to stand up and reach a conclusion. And in the absence of doing that -- and that's not easy, and I realize it's painful. But the alternatives, allowing this sort of to fester over the months of June, and July and August, I think, are irresponsible. I think you have to make a decision, and hopefully the candidates will respect it and people will rally behind a nominee that, I think, emerges from these contests over the next month. That's my suggestion. That's what I would do.

...I mean, if a person wants to stay in the race, stay in the race. But if you have enough people rallying behind what appears to be the likely choice, and I believe the choice is Barack Obama, and I believe that will be the choice over the next several weeks, then I think you have to step up to the plate and say enough is enough. We want this to be over with. We want to get behind this candidate, and we want people to pull together to win that election in November, to build those majorities in the House and the Senate if we can, and then start doing the work on health care and Iraq and all these other issues that demand our attention.

Not a huge Chris Dodd guy, but this is a train I can get on board with - at least then we might finally have McCain and Obama talking about more than whether or not there was sniper fire in Bosnia in 1996.

, I'd rather hear about the 1998 Jose Canseco barbecue again than any more of the Bosnia nonsense.

I like Dodd. I've seen a few predictions that he will be Obama's VP nomination. He is a constitutional stalwart, and would bring more "experience" to the ticket... whatever it is that actually means.

But I've also been reading a lot about Gov. Sebelius from Nebraska... hehe, that would piss Hillary off - the first woman in the White House coming this year and not being her.

I guess I had more of a problem with Dodd when he was taking himself a bit too seriously as a presidential candidate than I do now. :p

And I think he's got a very, very good point (that coincides well with what you've been saying) in that a long, bitter, drawn out battle like this is only going to cripple the Dems and perpetuate the belief that the party is better at defeating itself than anyone else.

Yeah, I didn't pay him much attention either, but he is the absolute only reason that warrent-less wiretapping and telecommunications immunity are not currently legal in this country. His filibuster against the FISA bill postponed the vote... and now Dems in Congress are starting to grow a little more backbone as a result.

I could get behind any of the original democratic presidential candidates as a VP... well, aside from Kucinich or Gravel (who left the Democratic Party, endorsed a Green candidate - but not Nader - and then joined the Libertarian Party... all in one week).

Things that piss me off about this election cycle:

Democrats are masters at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I find it inconceivable that they could lose with legacy of one of the worst presdents in history going for them but they just might! I liked McCain in 2000 and if Hillary steals the nomination McCain will get my vote along with my campaign contributions.

Lol, awesome.

I really would like that ticket though - you guys obviously all know how much I like Obama, but to be honest if it weren't him as the Democratic front runner, I'd have been pretty pleased with Edwards as well.

I don't necessarily even sit on the same side of the fence as Edwards on all the issues, but much like I've stressed the "gut" feeling I've had about just not trusting Hilary, there is something about Edwards that just seems a bit more genuine to me than in other politicians. Obviously this isn't at all quantifiable in some measure of a "trustometer", I just guess it's a combination of me liking a bit of his policy and how he carries himself - Edwards just definitely seems to have the quality of being a respectable statesmen, whatever that means.

you do know that he was a lawyer of the most 2nd most despicable sort, right? (personal injury. the most being class action.)

Yes, yes - but when it comes to elections in this country, though it's unfortunate, all too often it seems you have to decide whose got the skeletons in their closet you're most capable of dealing with.

For me it is likely far easier to move beyond the fact that he was a personal injury lawyer than for others.
