haaha yeeeeah... many people WANT this event to fail, it's kind of sad... BUT... it DIDN'T fail... it's come together. i was at the speedway yesterday, in AMAZING people!!
|
The logistics of setting up the stage was never the major potential problem.
We will see if the high temperatures, large crowds, and only one highway will cause problems this weekend. There are plenty of opportunities for this event to fail... or be amazing. |

During moderate to vigorous exercise at normal temperatures we sweat at an avg rate of an .5ounce - 1ounce a min...
So considering the temps will be in the well above normal and depending on how hard you are fist pumping (that's dancing to a lot of us) you will need to hydrate at around the same rate of loss.
The follow paragraphs was take from Men's Health :: http://www.menshealth.com/sweat/drink-up.php
I substitute the words (fist pumping session) below for exercise...
Humans sweat more than any other mammal, causing us to lose the water and electrolytes crucial for optimal (first pumping). Why are electrolytes so important? These minerals, found in your blood and other body fluids, regulate your hydration, blood PH, and critical muscle and nerve functions.
You can stay on top of your (fist pumping) by drinking the right liquids at the right time.
Before your (Fist pumping): Start drinking water at least 15 minutes prior to any activity.
During: Try to down 8 ounces of water for every 20 minutes you (Fist pump).
When possible: Weigh yourself before and after a (fist pumping session), and subtract the weight of any water you drank while (fist pumping). For every pound you’ve lost during (fist pumping), drink 16 ounces of water. Then remember that guideline for your next (fist pumping session). So if you're 2 pounds lighter after an hour-long (fist pumping session), drink 32 ounces more before or during your next (fist pumping session).
Hit the Bathroom
An easy way to see if you're drinking enough is to use the urine test. The clearer, the better. If your pee looks more like iced tea than lemonade, you’re dehydrated.
What to Drink
Water's best for most (fist pumping session), but if you're really sweating—(fist pumping session) for longer than 30 minutes, usually—a sports drink may be your best bet. These drinks offer potassium, sodium, and other electrolytes to replenish the minerals lost through sweat. And the carbohydrate concentration in sports drinks allows them to be absorbed by the body up to 30 percent faster than water, meaning your energy is restored quicker than with plain H2O.
Whatever you drink, take it cold and in frequent, small amounts. This proven strategy guarantees your fluids will be absorbed in less time—leaving you energized and well hydrated.
Now lets role! |
Not quite accurate for someone taking MDMA. From TheDEA.org:
"Although you can endanger yourself by forcing yourself to drink large amounts of water while sober, there's an extra twist when dealing with MDMA: Antidiuretic hormone. MDMA places a stress on your system, and one of your body's responses to this stress is to release a chemical that tells the kidneys to allow more of the water they collect to escape back into the bloodstream.[1] As a result, while on MDMA you usually don't have to go to the bathroom for several hours, as the volume of urine being produced is greatly reduced. (The kidneys keep working, they just send less water on to the bladder.) This odd effect can remove what would normally be the main line of defense against hyponatremia: The ability to urinate out at least part of the excess water. As noted in Heatstroke, users who are not dancing or otherwise exerting themselves for extended periods don't need a plan; just drink as you normally would or as thirst dictates. If active, up to a liter of water (or better yet, sports drinks like Gatorade) per hour of heavy exercise is appropriate. These hyponatremia deaths occur because people misunderstood the problem; such tragedies should be very easily avoided.
A note on hyponatremia: It doesn't necessarily require drinking far too much water. Endurance athletes will sometimes suffer hyponatremia because of all the salt they've lost in sweat. However, cases severe enough to be fatal seem to always be the result of uncontrolled water intake. The ideal solution for athletes are drinks that replace sodium as well as water...if you wish, you can add a little table salt (perhaps a quarter of a teaspoon per liter) to your drinking water."

from somethingawful forums:

EDC Dallas was a disaster. One dude died and like 30 were sent to the hospital. Skrillex had barely started when some pulled a fire alarm and got everything moved outside. This however, was a small part of all the other problems.
- It started at 4PM, this in Texas and it stays really ing hot until like 7:30.
- The maps both at the event and online were wrong, so nobody knew what stage was what (I missed almost all of Excision because of this)
- The temperature inside the buildings was hotter than it was outside, not to mention the bathrooms, one of the indoor ones had to have been at LEAST 100 degrees
- The website said the trains stop at midnight so everyone drove. Lo and behold they were making runs at the end so I drove for no reason.
- Parking ing sucked, there was nobody directing traffic, no signs leading to parking areas, you just drove until you got lucky and found an open lot (I ended up about 8 blocks away, with more even farther than that)
- No water fountains. You either paid the $3 for a water bottle or went to a bathroom sink. Also there was like 1 or 2 refill stations tops
- There was a huge pool down the middle but for some reason they blocked off one side so to get to the other half of the venue you had to walk around the far end, so it was constantly packed and slow
- After everything was moved outside it became really apparent how they sold WAAAAY too many tickets for the amount of space they had open.
Also they've been deleting comments on their FB page that talk about any of the issues caused by Insomniac not planning a single ing thing rather than problems caused by people attending. |
e: also in terms of water suggestion: SIP WATER!!! do NOT chug a bottle of water if you are feeling sick, it will make you vomit and feel even worse.
You should be sipping water constantly all day and you will be fine. |

Do they search everyone coming into Nascar races for drugs and weapons, or only have 2 entrances?
That is what causes the long lines at EDC. |

the search/id check wouldn't affect the traffic on the road. |

Traffic and waiting in line to get in are two different things. Hopefully there won't be much of a line issue since it seems that there are a good amount of entrances. |
