It is reasonable for a customer to know what he/she is paying for before buying a ticket, especially since a trip to Vegas would cost much more than a trip to the Coliseum for many TAs. How often do you buy a ticket to a club without knowing who is DJing that night?

The reason people are "moaning and whining" is because only three acts have been officially announced and tickets go on sale in two days. Sure, the three acts are among the biggest in the EDM scene, but they will only be spinning a fraction of the time. If Insomniac released more names before the tickets went on sale, allowing customers to know what they would be buying, there would be less complaining.

but potentially less money for the promoter.

Well... that's a bullocks attitude Henry. I'm sure get hounded with questions about it, but frankly, its not you. What should be happening is a release of 10-15 names over the first three days as a tease. Let's say that 15 names is spread over 5 stages... that'd give you a headliner per stage per day.

Insomniac is asking people to shell out a minimum of $180 "on good faith" that they will want to see people that will be there each day. That's a commanding amount of consumer faith.

The thing I'm pissed most about is this: I went to EDC last year and got a questioner about who should be coming. This gives off the impression that some NEW people will be coming. The three announced names are running completely against that notion. I'm not saying that there wont be new people (the whole Yoji thing 2 years ago was a neat twist) but what has been set now is that the event will cater right back to the names that are completely expected. That's boring and upsetting to a market that was enticed by a possibility of changes. It also causes people to lose faith in submitting anything in the future.

Precisely. They've given out 3 names, and want consumers to spend money on 3 day passes, or $180, if not more. Not informing your consumer of much really for the price are they? My reasons for being upset are above. If Insomniac wanted to know who would sell tickets, they can pretty much grab the Top 100 list and check that. They didn't need to ask people who they wanted to see.

I can see where you are coming from, but I don't necessarily agree with that in this case. Here, they know they will sell a huge amount of tickets whether they release 0 names, 3 names, or 10 names. We all don't expect the whole lineup (God, that would be a change for the business eh?) but a worried consumer who doesn't like the three names listed might be turned away as a whole since tickets (Yes, if you break it down, single day tickets are 60 if you buy the 3 day pass, similar to last year) and expenses are expected to be significantly higher this time. I guess releasing more names could turn more people away, but it could equally turn them to buying more tickets. However, with the expected ticket price jumps, I could understand as well why you make the comment you do. If people hold off because of little information and buy after a price jump has occurred, I suppose they will have made some more money.

...which wasn't even announced until a couple weeks before the event when ticket prices were at or near their highest. they'll probably pull the same bull again and price out many of the potential attendees who wouldn't be insurance liabilities.
