I'll make sure to stay as far away as possible from that stage. What a god awful subgenre... |

OK, answer me this then: Will there be a techno/tech-house stage? |
Hey Henry (or anybody else), can you please answer this question? While I am not a fan of Insomniac's way of doing business, I was quite impressed with the Techno lineup at Beyond Wonderland. I didn't go because ticket prices were already way more than I was willing to pay when that stage was announced. I may bite my tongue and get tix for EDC if you can confirm the existence of a Techno stage.
(And maybe a teaser headliner?) |

it's a big genre no?
on topic: Simon Patterson confirmed on fb he'll be at EDC but didn't say which day. 3rd Insomniac appearance in the last 12 months... |

Not these days, no. Years and years ago, maybe. But pretty much every different style is defined within a genre. Like SvD was trance, then tech-trance (along with Marco V), then more tech-house in a way (and Marco V went more of an electro-tech-house route). That said, SvD busts out the harder/uplifting trance depending on the night. Overall, he seems to be playing a really good mix of it all. If he has one issue, is that he might try to play across too many styles. But maybe he just likes all the music right now, I dunno.
I think SvD did try to go a bit more commercial. A lot of DJs have been trying or did try. Heck,I think even Markus Schulz tried for awhile. And it didn't work in his favor. Now SvD is tearing it up again from reports and markus' is going the full-blown techno (and twisted) influenced route while still keeping it trance and he has taken his came to whole different level this year after a rather non-innovative few years there. For example, with Markus there's been a clear shift in his sets with a lot less vocal tracks. THANK GOODNES because vocal tracks have become pure the past couple of years. So much of them seem forced.
Genre's change and get re-defined over time. Heck, a lot of the prog (house) today would be considered prog-trance in the 90s. But prog-trance today prob wouldn't be called prog-trace in the 90s. Evolution of EDM. |

+1 million. His new direction, especially his upcoming Dakota stuff, is a welcome change and a great one so far compared to past years.
In that same vein, I just don't appreciate the new direction of Sander as much even though it definitely brought him a ton more fame and popularity this year. But as you say, it's an evolution of EDM and DJs' careers. |

There is def no stage for ONLY techno. I asked their main promoter Joaquin Bamaca, and he told me "No, that's for Beyond Wonderland now". So while there may be techno artists booked, don't hold your breath for them having their own designated stage. |

Simon Patterson is confirmed for EDC Sunday! It's actually his 4th Insomniac appearance within the last 12 months. EDC 2010, Nocturnal Wonderland, Beyond Wonderland & now EDC 2011. It's actually good news for me. Although Insomniac is overbooking him but I never get tired of seeing Patterson. Too bad I won't be there on Sunday..... :( |

amazing the excitement for someone who hasn't done much in the past two years.
feels like people are desperate for Djs with energy and excitement to justify the costs of going.
So far it's been all fail |
