btw did anyone notice if Steve Angello was actually mixing at all on friday?
I've already heard a lot of rumours going on that he pre-makes his sets a few months ago and I saw him play for about 30 minutes and it seems like he does.
No headphones, spent almost the whole time looking at the crowd-
wasn't using in-ear monitors either
I think all he does is play around with the effects & filters..
anyone else notice?
i believe what he is doing is that are all the tracks are already pitched at the same bpm (say 128), so he can use the visual markings on the cdjs to know when to mix as he knows the breaks, etc., on the tracks by memory.

nah man I'm pretty sure when they're together they do mix (well not from 'knowing' but from my personal thoughts)..
I've seen Axwell live before and he is a legend, I don't think he would ever play a recorded set.. not sure about Sebastian..
plus everytime I've seen pictures of their gigs they always have all their cd cases with them and a bunch of cd's lying around everywhere.. from the pictures of steve's set it doesnt look like he had any cd case around. ( http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...584.59894622407 ) . not sure if he uses usb now? .

i'm pretty sure that'd be extremely hard to do because even if he was using auto-cue on the cdj's (which he would HAVE to since he doesnt have headphones)-when you hit play on the track so you could start mixing it in, chances are the beat is going to be slightly off unless he has 100% perfect aim everytime-which would be godly. then since he wouldn't be using headphones the whole crowd would have to hear his error/hear him fix it live.
steve is an interesting fellow..

You can't judge hernan that way.... when he is
A. Literally opening up the night
B. Required to play that way as someone given a 8-9 slot
C. Is playing for only 1 hour

per Steve himself:
"For all you ppl out there who wanna know how its done .. Lemme tell u .., dj for 5 hours a day for 10 years. When you have done that .. Start touring , playing 4-6 gigs a week for another 5 years... After that try play on the CDj's. U see the BPM on the right side of the display , u have a pitch and easy way to count the BPM is by looking on the cd u gonna mix in , if 1 bpm is the dif just adjust the pitch to 0.8 or -0.8 depending on if its slower or faster .. After that 0.8 either way is one BPM. So 1.6 is 2 , 2.4 is 3 , 3.20 is 4 and 4 is 5. Ok .. Learn the trax u play and enjoy."

If you are referring to my comments earlier... I meant his sets in general. Also, I judge that off the set he played at EDC 2007 as well. He nearly put me to sleep, along with the members of our group that year.

agreed.
I'm not much of a progressive/techno fan which is Hernan's style, but I would kill to see him live. He was actually one of the people I wanted to see most of the festival but I sadly didn't get a chance to see him because he played first. I've heard great stories about his sets from many people.
to everyone his own though..
some people just dont dig other styles of music and that's fine..
some people like heavy as edm (dubstep/electro), others like more mellow (deep house, tech house, progressive etc.) - it's like being a rock lover always going to rock shows and then telling a jazz or blues artist his sets and music are boring- everyone has different tastes- they'd probably say something just as bad about your type of music. in my case i've learned to appreciate all type's of music for what they are.
This is why you usually wouldn't see an Hernan Cattaneo lover going to a dubstep show, or vica versa- each person has different tastes of music, and @ EDC they attempted to diversify the lineup (wether or not they succeeded is up to you).

I uploaded all of my videos from EDC. Here's the full playlist ->
I was not really feeling Guetta or Luke but people seemed to enjoy them. Kind of hard to see the DJ at the main stage though since it was so bright with all of the LED screens behind the DJ.
Here are some of the vids:
Ferry Corsten at Circuit Grounds
A-Trak at Neon Gardens
Laidback Luke at Kinetic Field
Afrojack? at Cosmic Meadow
Markus Schulz at Circuit Grounds

I happen to think he really does suck sweaty balls. but I haven't heard him at an event. Just through podcasts and a couple of vids from MM. This guy is too commercial, and lacks that EDM essence we all fell in love. I see people swearing those LBL shirts at massives and I always say under my breath, "That dude isn't even EdM."
This is the crap i'm talking about.. exhibit #1

I've honestly always wondered how that track happened. I still think the production is more Aoki than Luke though. That's me though.

Please someone tell me this isn't a a repeat. I dare you, DJ Wooody.. you know what i'm talking about. Sad to see the scene die like this. Well guess well just go out like Disco, ... was nice seeing you guys. Energy .. emotion. eudphoria...... product of techno and house equals trance and proggy house aka.....sister of trance. :(......... Almost 2 decades of goodness.
Very true! Many of my hip hop dj friends wish this trend would die and hip hop come back. They don't really like the new EDM (afrojack etc) but they play it cuz it's what people want now.
