| We're hours away from the fireworks, kids. Now, the real question is: should I enjoy tonight's drinking game with some Yuengling Black and Tan or some Samuel Adams Boston Lager? |

| quote: | Palin Dismisses Media, Appeals to 'Joe Six-Pack'
In a radio interview with conservative blogger and columnist Hugh Hewitt, Palin says she’s not concerned by criticisms of her performance in recent network interviews with ABC's Charles Gibson and CBS' Katie Couric, which many -- including some former conservative supporters -- have said showed her unprepared to be vice president.
"Oh, I think they're just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It's time that normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that's kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it," Palin told Hewitt. |

So she's pandering to a demographic that doesn't vote?

I too am excited... but I predict that the media widely declares Palin the victor.
The expectations here are key:
Biden is a dignified statesman with 35 years of Senatorial experience. He's a populist who has a real gift connecting to blue collar workers. He has a very sharp wit, and can bring people to their knees with a comment (just ask Giuliani). People expect him to be extraordinary tonight.
Palin is undignified, unproven, and widely panned by critics and sympathizers alike for being unqualified and completely out of her league. Everyone expects her to fall on her face, insult the Pope, or declare herself responsible for ending the Cold War in Reagan's stead.
Chances are that neither of those things will occur. Biden will be rock solid, but will say something honest that is deemed to be not politically expedient. He may come on too strong against Palin and be deemed sexist by the Michelle Malkin crew. Palin will probably not be caught making up because debates don't have many follow-up questions. It was Couric's follow-ups that made Palin look foolish.
In the end, Palin will stumble through successfully, Biden will be extraordinarily ok, and Ifill will probably draw back from criticism that she's pro-Obama by not asking any tough questions.
And due to our expectations of how things might turn out, Biden will have fall short of expectations and Palin will have exceeded them.
She'll be declared the winner by a pleasantly surprised media and public. |
