I think this country needs more elitism, not less. No more of the uneducated being encouraged to glory in their ignorance as they baptize themselves "the heartland" and "regular folks" and "not like those Ivory Tower elites."
If you are part of the half of the American adult population whose reading level is eighth grade and below, just stay home and crack a few books.

Also I think this whole financial mess has proved that capitalism in the form that the Americans have always loved is coming to an end soon.
Big financial institutions simply cant be trusted to regulate themselves.

Well put. I believe it's a major reason why our global popularity isn't the greatest right now, as well (not counting the war, that is).
