Probably not. Guess I'm going to have to get a degree in politics so I can be able to talk about it on teh internetz. |

| I can only laugh whenever the "Obama isn't bipartisan" line comes up - I worked for a Republican Senator (gasp - that takes away The17sss's "far left liberal" argument, doesn't it?) for some time who frankly adored Obama... and sought out his co-sponsorship on many a bill. |

Obama isn't far left just like McCain isn't a right wing nutjob. They're both respectable human beings. |

I think a lot of people are under an illusion that if they have some kind of high "general intelligence" as demonstrated by technical degrees, it somehow makes it more likely that their opinions about politics will be cogent instead of stupid nonsense. |

And I love how people bring up their degrees even if they're entirely irrelevant to the topic under discussion.
Uh, yeah, your knowledge of engineering or biology or quantum physics surely guarantees that you'll be informed when talking about the presidential campaign!
:conf: |
Is that not effectively what the post of mine that you quoted said?
:conf:
Edit: Actually, I didn't read your post correctly and subsequently made an arse of myself. :( |

I don't care what your degree is in so long as you can support your arguments and think logically (which you can) - but to use an MA in environmental engineering as an actual reason why we should somehow take him more seriously? Um, ok - I don't follow him on that one. |

Usually when you score in the top 1 percentile on everything your whole life it leads you to believe that your opinions about politics will be more cogents than say the other 99% of the people below you. So I can see how that is misleading since politics is full of and doesn't follow your normal ideas of logical reasoning or cause and effect. |

I think he was just getting defensive there at being called an idiot and was having a knee jerk reaction. I know it has happened to me before and I apologize. |

Meh, I've never had a problem with you at least. You may be a science nerd, but you can generally support your own opinions. :p |

No, it's misleading in another way: a person who devotes a lot of his time to serious intellectual study in science or wherever can still easily have half-assed, ill-formed ideas about things that he hasn't thought much about, such as politics. |
