wait, so what does the "at the time of the adoption of the constitution" really mean? |
I already told you. It means, "when this constitution is ratified, these rules are in effect". |

| This citizenship issue for both McCain and Obama are non issues. I'm done with this. |

oh, so it means, "starting from the time the constitution is ratified..." i get it... it basically means, these rules hold starting from the date the constitution is adopted until... right?
thank you for the clarification
in any case, it's complicated, the whole natural born citizen vs. naturalized citizen stuff :D |

Exactly, but it's a non-issue in this election. The lawsuit by Phil Berg is 100% frivelous. He has no case. If, and I stress, IF, the case even makes it before a judge (which i probably won't), it'll get thrown out almost immediately. |

| So it's honestly a non-issue? Despite this 'technicality'? Last time I checked, the American legal system loved technicalities. |

even if i am pro obama SNL's liberal tactics are not the reason... in fact, they're making me pro mccain! it's like what good does it do anyone if you make fun of someone like mccain? what good does it do to look at a small fraction of the real picture and start poking fun at someone who has returned from a war and has suffered a few injuries while held captive as a POW and make him look like a senile old man who is "out of touch" with the world? why don't you go back to critiquing Hollywood's fashion sense because that's what you're good at?! if you know nothing about war, do you feel justified in making fun of a war veteran?
|
He's not being made fun of because he's a war veteran. He's being made fun of because he mentions that he was a POW EVERY OTHER SECOND. |

It's a non-issue because the lawsuit has no legal basis. It's as if I sue McDonald's for making me fat. |

Wtf, how does that analogy work? :wtf:
OK, I understand that this is a lawsuit.
SPECIFICALLY: Is Obama ineligible to run for the presidency, due to constitutional technicalities regarding his place of birth, and his mother's age/citizenship status at the time of his birth? Or, this all unfounded, and rubbish?
Lawsuit or not, if your constitution specifies that he can't run due to a 'technicality' then your government can't exactly say "Oh, well, we'll make an exception this time", can they?
It would be a shame to see him bow out of the race now, due to something as insignificant as his mother's age when he was born. I'm just trying to understand what this is all about, and it's implications.
Sorry if I come across as a noob :p |

He was born in Hawaii, which is a US state, which would mean he is a natural born citizen. |

whatever the case, failure to respond to the lawsuit, given that he is being sued in a federal lawsuit, makes obama look bad... from any angle
it makes it look like he is trying to cover something up and he's trying to buy time before he gets elected into the white house, where, i would imagine, the law becomes a little more "on-his-side" since he is president of the usa and it then becomes more of an impeachment issue... chances are, once he gets into the white house, even if he isn't a natural-born citizen, he might get away with it cuz then you'd have to blame the voters too (just my opinion)... it just gets that much more messy and complicated... doesn't anyone remember- obama has a law degree from harvard law school?
talk about playing by your own rules... |
