I was at the Eaton's Center all day and there were plenty of shoppers! Your kidding yourself if you think stores wouldn't open.

Bought a suit there today, but lots of stores were closed.

Job well done by the police.

In a way I don't envy the police in this all this crap, 'cause no matter what they do... too many will see it the wrong way an criticize them for it.

I thought most of them were open. I was working on the European Jewellery renovation today. Yesterday they stopped us from leaving the mall's parking because of what was going on outside. The mall was a ghost town and I was stuck inside. What was funny was the Apple Store ppl were one of the first to scatter yesterday when the mall went into lockdown.

I agree. They're definitely not going to win any popularity contests, but from a tactical point I think they're doing a terrific job.

More than 100 police officers detained at least 50 demonstrators in the pouring rain in the middle of the intersection of Queen St. W. and Spadina Ave.

Demonstrators and passers-by, with their hands cuffed behind them, stood in the pouring rain waiting to be processed by officers and carted away in court services vans.

Officers took down the personal information of detainees, emptied their pockets into plastic evidence bags, and loaded them into waiting court services vans and a bus.

Those detained didn't fit into any neat category -- men, women, mostly in their 20s, most of them resigned to going through the arrest process without argument.

Several hundred paces away in the background, hundreds of riot police waited in case they were needed.

"You guys are saying 'Wrong place, wrong time'," a police officer said to two detainees who argued they were just passing by. "Yup," replied a young man in his early 20s. But that didn't make any difference -- the handcuffs stayed on and the two continued to be processed by officers who read them their rights and told they they had the right to call a lawyer. Whether or not they had the opportunity to call a lawyer is a different question.

Officers also asked detainees if they had any medical conditions that required special treatment. "Asthma," a young woman replied.

The atmosphere was surprisingly civil, with those detained volunteering their personal identification and readily answering police questions.

8:30 p.m., Queen St. W. at Spadina

Police begin detaining protesters at at Queen St. W. and Richmond.

8:15 p.m., Queen St. W. at Spadina

The angry crowd of hundreds huddled in the rain at Queen St. W. and Spadina Ave. was reduced to a small group standing face-to-face with police. While some of the protesters posed for photos in front of the police line, others were picked out of the crowd, one by one, as officers waded in to make individual arrests.

Police were screening the prisoners and detaining some while allowing others to leave the area.

Oh man not looking good, haven't heard from him yet ...

Agreed!

FWIW... i'd love to have taken a stick from one of those ******s that were smashing stuff and knock him in the head with it. Too many ing ppl have no balls. Everyone could have jumped them to stop them, but they stand by and let it happen... even cheering. Some humans can be such idiots!

And YES... if I was out there I'd have been one of the ppl trying to do something.

HUGE respect to the officers today. Going to union station was intense. We were searched 5 or 6 times walking down yonge. Cops running after us as Geoff has a metal rod (hookah stem) sticking out of his bag. They were all SUPER friendly and trying to make the best of the situation.

ok, what I mean were street shops....

A friend of mine works at the Queen St. Lululemon and the managers decided to keep it open this weekend despite requests from staff to shut the store down for their safety. Needless to say...none of the protesters popped it to buy $100 stretchy pants...

this is what I mean.... the workers shouldnt have had to be stuck inside because they should've have been there in the first place. Businesses are risking profit for their worker's safety which I think is ridiculous.

Yea, its your city people. Don't stand around with your cameras cheering punks and then complain about how the cops didn't do anything about it.

The police had their own agenda on Saturday and that was to hold the line. The violent protester's plan was to draw police in and then flank them once the line weakened and go for the barricades at the MTCC. What they got instead was a mountain of evidence against them and a night time mop up. I bet they got a lot of those ******s too since they were so scared they had to hide in the sewers.

Zero respect from me.

There are people who are sitting in the detention center who were protesting peacefully, and even people who weren't protesting at all and were just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The police have been holding people at Queen & Spadina, and have been for over 3 hours, in the cold and rain without washroom breaks, no water, no food and no explanation of what is going on and when they will be allowed to leave. Their phones, cameras have been broken because of the rain. There are people in the crowd who were just passing by.

What has gone down by law enforcement officers this week has angered and disgusted me beyond belief, and I hope those responsible for these violations of basic human rights are brought to justice.

I would have refused every single time.
