If this is true, that's really sickening.

at least she is taking the proper steps and has retained a lawyer now. It will be interesting to hear what comes out in court.

If people feel they were detained illegally or feel other rights were infringed on then they should do what she is and get a lawyer and go to court. I believe the lawyer this lady has is also representing three other ladies.

Sorry, but I have a really hard time believing this.

Exactly. Ofcourse there will be rotten cops or whatever but if a cop were gonna attempt something like this he/she would be smarter than to do it in a jail with hundred of people around and a bunch of other cops around.

This is only speculation but the threats were probably just a scare tactic. I'm inclined to believe this lady's personal accounts rather than what she heard from other people. She is a journalist after-all and has a lot to loose if caught lying.

a journalist for who? She could work for a university paper so she may not have that much to loose if caught lying.

She doesn't say the threats are from police....people are assumming this.

Like I said...she's gotten a lawyer so it doesn't look like she is just going to go away. It will be interesting to see if her claim actually does have any merit

^ Like I said it was speculation. Yes indeed it will be interesting to find out the outcome of her lawsuit.

ps. I liked your stealth edit to add "work for a university paper". You are right, university publications don't have any credibility at all.

I'm not suggesting a university paper doesn't have any credibility but if she is lying this isn't going to ruin her career in journalism.

Or a lot to gain by starting a rumour about this, and people actually knowing who she is because of it....

She has nothing to lose, because it's just going to be her word against theirs - and there won't be any proof from either side to back it up.

She was surrounded by hundreds of other detainees yet no one else has come forward to say they heard what she's accusing the cop of.....I find this increadibly hard to believe. And usually, rape victims dont go crying to the media before getting a lawyer....

maybe the cop told her off, but threatening to rape her? I dunno about that....

I agree, good for him as a citizen to do so.

However, although he had the right to his property... his intentions with his posession of goggles is highly suspect. Granted they're for protection from tear gas in case he got cought up in a ruckus by accident... but he was wearing a mask-ready bandana too, making him highly suspicious as showing intent to disturb .
