It's insane some of the stories I am hearing about the people who were in the detention center.

- A streetcar driver IN UNIFORM who was detained while changing the tracks
- A 50 year old man who was going to dialysis walking on Bloor wearing a black shirt
- A guy walking home from his work at a restaurant wearing black (his work uniform)
- Many, many other people who had absolutely nothing to do with the protests.

These people were given 1 small styrofoam cup of water every 5-6 hours (and not anymore even when requested), and small sandwiches with 1 piece of processed cheese as food.

Some people were detained for more than 30 hours, with no charges laid, no option to call a lawyer and no phone call. These people were missing and their families didn't know where they were for more than 30 hours. This is absolutely sickening!

So you're saying police are allowed to do whatever they want? All of our basic human rights should be thrown out the window?

What is supposed to make Canada great is the fact that we are supposed to be able to exercise our democratic rights to peaceful protest, without the fear of police repression.

There have been hundreds of people this who have been arrested, searched and harassed by police this weekend after not having committed any crimes.

If you want to live in an authoritarian state where it is ok to arrest arbitrarily arrest anyone who might fit the profile of a person you are looking for, please move to North Korea or Iran. The events that have transpired over this weekend have deeply disturbed me.

This is not my Toronto, and this is not my Canada.

you're are right - this weekend it wasn't our city, but you have our lovely protesters to thank for that, not the cops

I'm 100% positive the police did not have time to sift through a crowd, asking people who they are and what they are doing there

desperate times call for desperate measures, and of course there would be collateral damage - people completely unrelated with the mob

I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune if it was you or someone close to you who was arrested for no other reason but walking down the street or doing your job.

100% agreed and it is sad that many many dont see it this way. As I was watchign the vidoes I couldnt help to comapre the that went down in Iran last year. Canada isnt the same anymore and we moving more and more towards the authoritarian state and people dont seem to care.

It is not ok at with what the Police did and their actions were nothing but disgraceful. These Protestors were out there for me and you and our rights in this world. We really need to see the bigger picture here and stop being so god damn selfish.

lol the smart idea this weekend was to avoid the areas of unrest alltogether! everything was closed, what the hell would you do there?! go for a leisurely stroll?

Yes we do have rights and I agree with Jon, but I also bet police can legally detian you for a certian number of hours without charging you.

Now this is obviously in place for other situations, like holding a murder suspect while you collect evidence, but if the police are allowed to do it they will....
