Yesterday the cops got grilled for not taking enough control of the situation, in particular the rioting, property damage, etc. So today, they went ape - detaining or arresting everyone in site, and acting like ing tough guys. The majority of the protesters looked to be peaceful, but the bad apples ruined their purpose, and in turn, police responded with over the top tactics.
At the end of all of this, I gotta say - I'm not really feeling sorry for anyone all that much, with the exception of people who live or work in the area or whose property was damaged. You can talk about rights until your blue in the face, but there's no reason anyone NEEDS to be in these areas while this summit is going on downtown. After seeing everything that went down yesterday you just knew it was going to get ugly today. |

What about people who live on Queen St. ? What about people going out for dinner?
People are allowed to walk down the street. This wasn't a restricted zone, this happened at Queen & Spadina. |
I understand that people live in the area and that people are allowed to walk down the street and like I said I don't agree with what the cops have done, but honestly you know what is going on. If I lived in that area, I would be trying to avoid it at all costs. If you don't need to be there don't, or find another way to go around it. There are plenty of streets in the downtown core that will take you around what is going on.

Maybe they want to get them exposed to the real world rather than be sheltered? I mean I don't mean to tear gas and violence etc obviously, but the peaceful protests...
Even so wtf are the cops doing detaining 12 year olds? |
Who said anything about sheltered? There is a lot of ways to expose a child to the real world and I think children do that enough on their own. Honestly though, you don't put your kids in that type of situation period! |

Seriously, esp w detaining random people off the street. Wtf.
Meh, I think the cops did what they did to justify blowing all that $$$.
Same reason why they left the cop cars in the middle of the street to have those retarded anarchists torch them.
Media fodder as well obviously. It's all a huge retarded circus... |

I'm not saying go in the middle of the chaos obviously! I'm just saying a little real world exposure can't be a bad thing can it?
I see no problem bringing (older kids) to a PEACEFUL protest for a short amount of time. |

i cannot believe that people are so willing to acquiesce freedom and law. i wonder what they would think if it were they being illegally detained for hours in the rain as they walked home from a ball game, work, or - yes - observing the police.
for shame. |

I wonder how many brand new canadian libertarians there are out there after this weekend?
Will this change our attitude? Or will it be like normal and everyone will go back into their zombie mentalities of "whats the government doing about this?" NO, WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THIS? |

After what went down yesterday in Toronto, would you bring your kids to a protest?? Peaceful or not! That is bad parenting especially after all the and chaos of yesterday.
I would never want my child wrapped up in that. |

for whatever it's worth, i emailed my MP a little while ago voicing my displeasure, lack of faith in our police and their role in this city, and asking for his thoughts and actions going forward with all of this. |
