that's irrelevant. How many times in history has something been put in place as temporary only to become commonplace. It's the precedent that is set that's of concern. Jay is right, this is a very scary thing. |

I think finally you and I are on the same side of an issue here. But my question is, this law is clearly unconstitutional, how was it even passed? And how can they expect it to hold up in court when it's such an egregious affront to our basic rights as Canadian Citizens? |
The charter was designed with so many clauses and loopholes (on purpose) that its pretty much not even worth the paper its printed on as far as im concerned. |

You REALLLLLLYYYYYYY believe this will be implented into everyday Torontian life...ok good..I get the big brother thing...but really???
Quebec was a temp. police state during FLQ....what's changed?
The world's most powerful leaders are in one place, precautions are extraordinary in coordination with the situation.
This does not by anymeans set a precedent, I can use political or day to day examples.
Law of relativity....I would join you in fear if this was a regular Friday in Toronto and this happened...but it is far, far, far from a regular day. |

take a good look at that car and stuff in the picture... seriously London bombings?
okay Toronto, if this is what our terrorists are like, they definitely did NOT need a billion dollars to keep us "secure" |
wow ever tried to think outside the box? I clearly didn't say the guy was heading for Union station with intentions to plant bombings
what I meant was that cops are being exttra vigilant with suspicious persons/objects |

You do know that totalitarian regimes ALWAYS use "national security" or "protection of the proletariat" as an excuse for heavy handed tactics like this right? Its always for "the sake of the people and security".
Just read up on the constitution of Cuba or China sometime. Its a good laugh. |

Charter? what Charter?

Judge OKs sound cannon use
Toronto police will be allowed to use sound cannons for crowd control during the G8 and G20 summits.
A judge dismissed a motion Friday morning against the OPP to ban the use of the long-range acoustical devices (LRADs), or sound cannons, during the G20 summit.
However the judge put some limits on their use. Only the lower levels can be used by Toronto police.
The Toronto Police plan to amend their operating protocol to mirror the OPP's and that will allow them to use the ear-piercing Alert function on their sound cannons during this weekend's G20 protests.
The sound cannons, which came under fire by protester groups, can emit alerts that can be heard up to 1.5 km away.
Protesters expressed concern that the ear-piercing alerts could cause long-term hearing damage.

I respect and understand what you're saying..I'm a fan of your posts and your knowledge...I get your theory, but really I don't forsee this as being implemented in everyday life.
Torontonians would revolt, we are foreigners in our own city for the next 3 days. |
