this thread is crazy for all these agreements we are having :p
re: article posted - um, I'm sorry she had a gas mask with her? right, and she "says" she was on her way to protest "peacefully"
well, who in the right mind would say "I was on my way to smash windows and call cops pigs"?
I'm not liking this "she said, he said" - who knows what were really their intentions
and Jay, quit with this USSR/Korea/China crap - I was in project mode when that was going around so how the hell would I know and how is this relevent to my views now? |
Oh please, just because she has a gas mask and is prepared for the insanity means she is going to be violent?
I wouldn't make assumptions of any kind... |

we're making the opposite assumption that she's saying the truth
I'm just observing |

A gas mask is not a weapon. It is protection from the weapons that police have in their possession to use against the protesters (tear gas).
Having a gas mask does not mean she intended to break windows.
Again, you are generalizing and profiling. |

I'm not generalizing - I'm keeping an open mind because who knows how many of these reports are true! What is wrong with NOT believing them? |

Wouldn't you assume someone is telling the truth (in any case like they do in a court of law?) or because it's G20, everyone's guitly/suspicious?
Edit: What's wrong with not believing them is that democracy and freedom (or at least the court of law) dictates that people are given the benefit of the doubt, IE Innocent until proven otherwise... |

2009 G-20 Pittsburgh security cost $30 million.
2010 G-20 Toronto security cost $ 930 million.
Considering what happened in last 2 days, CANADA=FAIL |
I question how these numbers are reported.
I think a large part of the cost (given what I saw of the G20 anyways) were salaries - salaries of people who would have been paid anyways, in another province or city. I highly highly doubt our incremental cost was 930mm bucks while it was 7mm pounds in the UK. |

most probably the latter

yeah yet the cops have a right to detain you anyway
and it's not just a Canada-based rule
so yeah - as I said, I would be suspicious |

Wow.
Sorry Kris, just very surprising. |

| I'm sorry but the moment any of these protesters decided to disrupt the normal lives of Toronto citizens they lost any ideals of being peaceful. A truly peaceful protester would take proper channels to have their concerns heard. |

They did take proper channels, in voicing one's opinion. Peaceful rallies aren't a bad idea.
It's the other protesters/violent people that ruined it for everyone else. |
