Or a lot to gain by starting a rumour about this, and people actually knowing who she is because of it....
She has nothing to lose, because it's just going to be her word against theirs - and there won't be any proof from either side to back it up.
That is a valid point. If the allegations are true I hope someone will come forward with evidence. This is a very serious matter.

Similar to situations ive been in MANY MANY times in the entertainment district simply for walking from my job to my car. Except i was always able to walk away from it without the search or ID check.
Its not a nice feeling to suddenly be surrounded by 8 bike cops out of nowhere when walking home.
And to those who would say "if u have nothing to hide, then whats the problem?" this video should answer that. Because the cops can use anything the want against you. Goggles? Really?? So what if i allow them to search me and they find something that is harmless that for some reason they want to argue is dangerous, like goggles? So by letting them invade my privacy i have now given them more opportunities to find reasons why i MIGHT be a criminal even if im not actually a criminal!
Imagine what they would have said if i let them search me and they found my tech work tools at 3 am?? (standard toolbox). Im sure id be booked for possession of burglary tools or some other bull charge!!
I hope this guy sues the police for every penny he can possibly get.

I agree, good for him as a citizen to do so.
However, although he had the right to his property... his intentions with his posession of goggles is highly suspect. Granted they're for protection from tear gas in case he got cought up in a ruckus by accident... but he was wearing a mask-ready bandana too, making him highly suspicious as showing intent to disturb .
I was wondering where he thought he would be swimming in that park....the change of clothing is also suspicious.
I agree that it was good for him to stand up to the police....but if you had nothing to hide then why not make it easier on everyone and just co-operate with them.
If I was in his position I would have voiced my concerns with what they were doing and request their badge numbers and the name of their division head. After that I would have allowed them to search my bag.

Interesting about the goggles.
That said, if this guy went in the park and blew up it'd be a different story! Everyone fights for the charter of rights and freedoms until someone abuses them and people die.
Why is everyone okay with being searched in times square on New Years Eve? because they recognize that there's a risk to their safety otherwise.
I applaud him for the way he handled this though.

There is a big difference between a typical night in the entertainment district and what was happening during the weekend. A good citizen would understand the situation the police have been put in and would assist them by making their job easier.....but he did the right thing in at least voicing his opinion in a non-threatening way.

What were they worried about when there were already more cops than people?
Seriously its a park, not an airport FFS

The problem is the people that complain about people being searched are the same people who complain because people are not searched. They have issues with authority and no matter what they will complain about what the police do.

its about time and place. For example its reasonable to be searched before boarding a plane. Its not reasonable to be searched before entering a park or walking down the street.

I think in situations where heightened security measures are necessary, such as the G20 (or NYE in times square - also in a public place), people in other countries generally understand and feel comfortable giving up certain liberties to ensure one person does not blow everyone up and create a big scene. Here in Canada, I often think we believe we are invincible, like it could never happen here, Canadians would never be a target, and therefore such measures (and the sacrifices required for them) are unjust.

If there was a similar level of passion in discussing the rioting goons as there is in discussing police activities this certainly would be a different city.
