After what went down yesterday in Toronto, would you bring your kids to a protest?? Peaceful or not! That is bad parenting especially after all the and chaos of yesterday.

I would never want my child wrapped up in that.

They probably did but last time I checked it's a free country and if I'm NOT in a protest area or security zone who the hell says I should stay at home locked up? What city/country am I living in?

Just avoid downtown for 2 days? Seriously whats the big deal?

It's like me telling you "Yo Chris, there's going to be a soccer match between two heated rivals and in all likelihood soccer hooligans are going to start a riot at this location at this time, is gonna go down - avoid it for your own good.

Are you going to reply to me with - "You mean I can't have a cup of coffee at my favorite spot?? What about my freedoms!?"

and this(from someone detained):

"Here with elderly couple w shopping bags, 3 German women getting hot dogs, dude coming back from baseball game."

entirely innocent people, including kids, getting caught up in ridiculous circumstances, through no fault of their own.

How was that sent from someone who is detained? They take your belongings away from you (including your mobile phone).

I lost faith in them a long time ago.

I think you have your sequence of events jumbled. The people detained over night on Saturday were from that day's protests. Today's "peaceful protest" which clearly had some violent elements as seen by the dbag who punched a cop in the face in one of the videos posted earlier in this thread - occurred out of the designated protest zone! As far as I'm concerned if you're not supposed to be there then you deserve what's coming to you.

I realize that they detained people on Saturday however not all of the "black bloc" had been arrested....so obviously cops were trying to make up their shortcomings today which resulted in numerous unnecessarily detained civilians. Who cares if they weren't in the "designated protest zone", the fact is that they were peaceful and the cops bombarded them and forced them to react....as evidenced by the cop getting punched out.

IMO the cops messed up yesterday by allowing things to get out of control so they overcompensated today to make up for their shortcomings...they looked like solders in The Hurt Locker out there today...

Fair enough I'm not necessarily saying to willingly subject my kids to the chaos or even peaceful protest for an extended period BUT a bit of exposure (providing they're a certain age) can't be bad. IMO. All depends on the scenario.

Also, I didn't go downtown b/c I didn't want to be subjected to the craziness

HOWEVER, what if I were lviing down there? I wouldn't have a choice would I.
