questioning ulterior motives and standing up for your rights is hardly "pathetic". Whats pathetic is that more people dont do so.

Torontonians would revolt, we are foreigners in our own city for the next 3 days.

u think torontonians would revolt? i have yet to see it. I hate to say it but the only time anyone "revolts" around here is when a few natives dont get their cheques on time or there is some foreign war going on.

Funkycrew's attitude seems to be the norm in Toronto (Canada in general) and its why we are losing our rights. Its human nature to push people to the limit of what they can get away with and that includes the government.

so you guys think its acceptable that ANYONE can be walking around that area without being questioned??

I am thankful for these TEMPORARY precautions - anything to keep our city, the public, and all g-20 visitors safe.

exactly! (and we don't agree often!)
while you guys are wasting air debating tinfoil hat theories, we have real people protecting the city. even if it is just in case

yes, unless they are actually doing something wrong, walking around should not be considered a crime. After all, isnt the fence there for that purpose? To make sure people dont do anything wrong? You dont see an issue with the cops having the right to arrest you without cause?

I cant wait to see what qualifies next as necissary for these police powers. Will this apply to other "special scenerios?" whats the threshold for determining this? Could the entertainment area ever be designated a public works area for the "safety of the city and the public?"

You guys might think im reaching, but you have to admit that so far most of my predictions based on simple patterns have come true over time.

People have been warned to stay away for WEEKS. There is NO NEED to be near those fences unless you have a pass. If you refuse to give ID you are a MORON and deserve to be arrested so that you can be made an example of.

I think it's unacceptable that the police officer's word is accepted without question under the law with these precautions. You can be thankful for not being able to defend yourself in court when an officer decides he doesn't like the way you looked at him and tells the judge that you threw a rock at him.

so when the police/politicians want everyone to stay out of the entertainment district in the future or anywhere else they want to lockdown you dont think they will consider and maybe use the same legislation powers?

If im trying to climb or bust through security then thats one thing, but simply walking around in a public space and being subject to questioning , searches and mandatory ID checks for doing so is NO different than Cuba and China. I have been to both. Its not a pleasant feeling being watched by cops in those places knowing that at any time they could do anything they wanted to you and youd have no recourse at all. And now i learn that the same thing applies to my very own country!

Worse yet, there are people here defending it!

LOL wasting? You want to talk about wasting? How about the 1.3 Billion dollars going to waste for 3 days to protect a bunch of criminals now that is a waste. Also what tinfoil hat theories are you talking about? Everything that has been discussed and presented on this thread is all true unless you can prove them wrong. :)

Jay there is a HUGE difference between here and Cuba/China.

This is temporary and to protect (the public, political leaders, the city...)

I dont see why you are all so surprised by this. Think of how Tnto and Canada would look is something was to happen. Everyone would be wondering why these measure were not put into place... better to be safe than sorry.

And thats all you get from me. Far too much work to be debating with such extremists :p

But one more time... better safe than sorry.
