Canada isnt the same anymore and we moving more and more towards the authoritarian state and people dont seem to care. |
That's because it hasn't affected them yet. For any of those who think this heavy handed policing is justified, just wait until it affects you and then we'll see what you have to say about it. |

desperate times call for desperate measures, and of course there would be collateral damage - people completely unrelated with the mob |
FYI this is not a war zone. There is no need for "desperate measures" or "collateral damage". Our civil liberties and freedoms should not be taking a back seat because a of couple bad apples and a police force that was unprepared to deal with them. |

lol the smart idea this weekend was to avoid the areas of unrest alltogether! everything was closed, what the hell would you do there?! go for a leisurely stroll? |
You aren't listening.
Some people live and work in the areas affected that weekend. For some of these people, it is not as simple as your suggestion to simply avoid the area.
Also, a lot of people were in the area to exercise their democratic right to peaceful proteset. This isn't North Korea or Soviet Russia: people shouldn't be afraid of police oppression when they want to peacefully voice their opinions. |

This line of thought is part of the problem. Not all protesters are violent. In fact, most of the people protesting were peaceful and had legitimate concerns and reasons to protest. Do not paint everybody with the same brush. |

Isn't it 24 hours without charge? |
I'm not sure, I just assume there is some time limit in place. I'm curious to know what it is though... |

unfortunately, the peaceful guys got the short end of the stick, thanks to what was going on Saturday - I'm guessing the police did not want to take any more risks
I don't know, I'm not feeling the whole "omg, they took away my civil rights" thing - this is my honest opinion on this matter |

see my reply above - as I said already, it was unfortunate but the violence was much more obvious this weekend then people marching peacefully |

I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune if it was you or someone close to you who was arrested for no other reason but walking down the street or doing your job. |
you see...people I know would be smart enough to stay the away from toronto for the weekend.
I am sure there is a lot more to the story then "I was just walking home from work and got detained."
These people could have easily stayed away from areas of concern. They could have taken other routes to get to where they were going. |

You had nothing to protest but please understand that there were many others who felt passionate enough about something to do so. Lets not forget they have the right to do that.
What do you think would have happened if only the police had spent even a 10th of the 1B investigating and infiltrating the black bloc? No, instead they blow a billion dollars turning the city into a giant bunker. |

| I'm suprised the Tamils didn't join in and protest why Canada didn't help them. That cause so much more damage and would justify the 1 billion security price tag. |
