Why is it disrespectful....the people who were down there should have known the risks...you can't expect the police to just ask everyone if they are a protester or just someone there to watch what is going on. There is no reason for anyone from the police department to apologize for anything. I have no sympathy for anyone who was down there.....if you didn't want to risk getting arrested then you should have just stayed home.
The police handled this very well...there were no serious injuries, no gun fire, and everything stayed fairly calm considering how bad things could have gotten. |
for once I FULLY agree with this
people please stop whining about police "brutality" - those who were in the heart of the unrest, did so at their own risks |

The 3 so called "protesters" caught wearing exactly same boots as cops who're arresting them:
|
I can see it being an honest up where cops arent recognizing their own...the reason I say that is because the cops in green are actually from Quebec (Sûreté du Québec)...I came across many of them in the last couple of days and the majority barley spoke any english lol |

WHY WERE PEACEFUL PROTESTERS ATTACKED BY POLICE?
WHY WAS THE PUBLIC WORKS PROTECTION ACT AS AMENDED BY DALTON MCGUINTY'S GOVERNMENT ON JUNE 2 NOT MADE PUBLIC UNTIL LAST THURSDAY?
ARE THE CHANGES TO THIS ACT CONSTITUTIONAL?
WHY WERE POLICE ALLOWED TO DEMAND ID AND SEARCH PEOPLE MILES AWAY FROM THE SECURITY ZONE?
WHY WERE PEOPLE BEING FORCIBLY CONTAINED AND "ARRESTED FIRST AND SORTED LATER?"
WHERE HAS THE PREMIER BEEN IN THIS WHOLE MESS?
and:
with thousands of additional officers in town, why did the police response seem so slow to deliberate acts of vandalism? Was this a conscious police tactic — to allow some damage to happen before cracking down? |
These are the questions that need to be asked. |

So you're saying police are allowed to do whatever they want? All of our basic human rights should be thrown out the window?
What is supposed to make Canada great is the fact that we are supposed to be able to exercise our democratic rights to peaceful protest, without the fear of police repression.
There have been hundreds of people this who have been arrested, searched and harassed by police this weekend after not having committed any crimes.
If you want to live in an authoritarian state where it is ok to arrest arbitrarily arrest anyone who might fit the profile of a person you are looking for, please move to North Korea or Iran. The events that have transpired over this weekend have deeply disturbed me.
This is not my Toronto, and this is not my Canada. |

i have lived in toronto for 32 years. have never seen a day like this. shame on the vandals.
# and shame on those that ordered peaceful protesters attacked and arrested. that is not consistent with democracy in toronto, G20 or no G20 |
Tweets from Steve Paikin last night. I couldn't agree more. |

some of the "peaceful" protesters that they picked out of the crowd were accused of being invloved earlier in the violent attacks. i guess they picked them off from the cameras that were installed.
i do agree that police should have not been allowed to just trap those people in the end on queen in the rain. what was the point of that?
i was mad at them for allowing the black bloc to wreck queen street.
but the peeps protesting at the detention centre should have ed right off. they were their the entire day on someone's lawn yelling and causing disturbance. why would a normal person go ask for trouble near a jail? go home and wait it out. you are not helping your detained friend by hanging out outside. just delaying the process.
i am all for free speech. i don't mind protests. i just don't like stupid protests. |

Anyone involved in the protests are going to be grouped in with the vandals. The protesters had other options then to march down streets and creating an atmosphere that could ignite into violence at any moment. The police did what they thought was best to protect the citizens of Toronto. It seems the majority of the protesters were not even from Toronto...hell some were not even from this country. I put the safety of the citizens above the right for people to protest in this manner.
I am all for free speech but these protests failed to bring any issues forward or help in gaining support for issues. The only things people will remember is the destruction and stupidy of both the police and the protesters....good job getting your point across. |
