This shootout rule is going to annoy me a lot.

See, I don't like draws for situations where both team play well and both team deserve to come away with something. Or one team makes a great comeback after being down a few goals, whatever

Stupid North Americans and their 'win or lose' mentality. :p

what a great game...and what a ty way to end it.

and yes I'd still be saying this if the Leafs had won.

I'd rather see sudden death four-on-four until it's settled.

I'd rather see the 4 on 4 until it is settled but it will never happen. If games went two or three overtimes it could completely ruin a team for the next game. I say go back to 6 on 6 hockey and one period of 10 minute overtime...if no winner the game is a tie. And yes I said six on six because that is what hockey use to be.

I thought the game was extremely exciting. A lot of fast breaks and odd man rushes. I think it is going to be an entertaining season provided they don't back off the enforcement of the new rules.

With regard to the shoot-out..... From an entertainment point of view I find it to be a win. Let's face it, penalty shots are one of the most exciting things in hockey. That said, as a hockey purist I think it is just plain wrong. Any sporting event is a contest to decide who the better team (or individual if not a team sport) is at a particular game on a particular day. The shoot out is not the same game as hockey.... it's a different contest. The winner of the shoot out is not necessarally the better team. All the shoot out decides is who has the better 3 penalty shot takers or better one on one goalie. Ottawa won last night because the Domonator is a great one on one goalie and both Alferdson and Heatley are very good at deaking.... they did not win because they were the better team.

Personally, I don't see what's wrong with leaving the game as a tie.

Unfortunately, Leaf management knew that there were going to be shoot outs now. They should have got some shooters in the trades. Not old big slow guys.

The big slow guys they have can shoot. The problem was Hasek is probably the best one on one goalie in the NHL if not ever.

He used to have the entire Sabre's line up go one on one with him at the end of practices until someone beat him.... quite often he'd get through the entire line up twice before anyone scored.

Sundin is out 4-6 weeks and O'Neil is doubtful for Saturday

Saturday Night

Toronto 4 Montreal 5

Well....I must admit that montreal was the better team. They dominated toronto for the most part. Toronto had a few moments of greatness but overall Montreal showed why they are 3-0 to start the season.

I am still impressed with Lindros....he played another really good game...you can just tell he is happy to be in the leaf uniform. Antropov aka Big Stupid Giant played a better game. I am still very impressed with Ponikorovski...this kid is always on the go and even though I don't think he will be a goal scorer he makes other teams turn over the puck.

Steen and Stajan both played well and I think in a couple years they will really be a force to be reckon with.

And then Domi....watch out everyone....he has more points then Sundin....he's gonna ask for the C now.

Tonights Game

Toronto 5 Ottawa 5 - ottawa wins in another boring shoot out.

After another exciting game between these two teams it is decided by who has the better shooter....stupid stupid stupid.

I was impressed with Antripov tonight. He played hard and made himself noticed....that is what he has to do. I think he has the skills he just needs the confidence to go with it.

Belfour is looking his 40 years out there. He just seems to be lacking that edge that he had in the past....maybe he has to get back on the sauce...I don't know but Hasek was definately the better goalie tonight. When will teams learn....shoot high on him....he's always making love with the ice.
