i spoke too soon.

Boston GM Peter Chiarelli has frred up cap space for Kaberle by dealing Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler to Atlanta for Boris Valabik and Rich "Habs Killer" Peverley.

Habs injuries are killing me. Specially Markov who's such an important part of the PP and all around pretty reliable. He's practically not on the team anymore with all the games he's been out for... Price is playing well and the rest of the team has picked up some serious slack but nobody in the league has enough depth to get far into the playoffs with that many men out.

Kaberle trade is a win/win, that guy's time in Toronto has been done for awhile especially if you truly want to rebuild.

I've watched Spezza since the start (used to live in Ottawa) and trust me you do NOT want him on Toronto. #1 salary cap killer, #2 injuries galore, #3 horrible backchecking and defensive skills + turnovers. I have no doubt him + Kessel would be a great pass+feed combo and you'd get tons of highlight plays out of the two. But man they both have shat defensive skills and sloppy turnovers it would be a coach's nightmare to have them on the same line.

Ottawa is getting rid of everyone....I could see burke getting rid of his recently acquired first round picks for Spezza....I wouldn't like it though.

If we don't have Price, this team is easily in 10th or 11th place in the conference. We have no offense, a defense hanging by a thread...Carey has made the difference this year.

Injuries happen...when (if) this team is healthy they are pretty good. Still not cup contender good, but like last year a good wild card/ dark horse.

We have some nice cap room next ear too. Be patient.

The kid you just got from Boston is the perfect type of player to play with Kessel. You don't want or need Spezza...so over rated, keep going with the youth movement and the proper rebuild.

Yeah, I prefer continuing down the road being traveled but with Burke you never know when he is going to change direction.
Zyklon_Jay
even the biggest Burke hater has to give him a bit of credit for fixing some of the biggest mistakes he made today. (aka getting a draft pick back for the kessel mistake, and getting a player that will eventually help kessel play better.) You got a blue chip prospect (which you guys don't have too many of) and a first rounder for a rent a player.

this kid you got is for real...and the type of player habs fans dream of. A big, talented center. We've been looking for one for the past 17 years.

The mega Boston and Toronto Trade

To Boston
Seguin
First Round Pick 2011
Second Round Pick 2011??
Kaberle

To Toronto
Kessel
First Round Pick 2011
Conditional Draft Pick
Colborne

That trade doesn't seem sooo bad.

I meant about the kaberle deal. We can focus more on other matters instead of waiting for the trade to happen. I remember coming back from montreal last summer and in the middle of agust kaberle rumors were flying. Anyway I'm glad that's over.

Spezza to toronto isn't a good move. He's overrated and I'd be surprised to ever see a 40 goal year again.

I can see burke trying to make more moves to free up cap space after dealing beach, versteeg and karberle in hopes to sign brad richards in the summer. Which I'm sure if the hockey world would sign for 5 million a year, toronto would have to pay 6+ just get a guy like that to play here. I also hear ilya bryzgalov may be a prospect goaltender for the leafs.

So does season already seem like its done for us? I still hope we'll make the playoffs but I can see us sitting in 9th overall.

If we can win against ottawa on sat things should look interesting.

not at all.

Boston overpaid for Kaberle big time, and messed around with team chemistry. This trade can easily bite them in the ass.

when you break it down you have Seguin for Kessel is pretty much a wash. Kaberle for a 23rd to 25th overall pick to me is a wash (Kaberle is very over rated). The 6th to 10th overall pick for Colborne and a Conditional pick is probably a little one sided for boston...depending on where Toronto actually finishes. So basically Toronto threw in a second round pick which you could easily say would be a wash in the Seguin and Kessel trade....depening on how Seguin develops.

Overall I think it equals out and makes the Kessel Trade not quite so bad.
